Proposal Project Trash Can
Proposal Project Trash Can
GROUP 8
Arranged by :
On this occasion, we would like to proudly present our proposal for the
implementation of automatic waste bins. This proposal aims to introduce innovations that we
believe will bring great benefits to the environment and surrounding communities.
We realize how important efficient and environmentally friendly waste management
is. Therefore, we have designed a solution that utilizes automated technology to optimize the
waste collection and management process effectively.
Through this proposal, we hope to explain in detail the concept, benefits and
implementation of the automatic trash can that we are proposing. We are confident that this
project will be a positive step in efforts to maintain a clean environment and improve the
quality of life of the community.
We are ready to explain more about this proposal and look forward to working with
interested parties to make this worthwhile project a reality.
Thank you for the attention and opportunity given.

1.1 Background
Cities are places for people to provide services, trade and carry out activities. On the one
hand, the city provides opportunities to obtain employment opportunities. However, on the
other hand, cities also produce various problems such as limited energy, congestion, health,
waste and crime. One of the problems that often occurs in urban areas is a damaged
environment.
The urban environment is very vulnerable to various types of damage. Like rubbish that is
scattered everywhere and rivers that are dirty due to careless dumping of rubbish. This can
cause various problems such as flooding. One effort to improve the quality of the urban
environment is the Smart Environment concept. The Smart Environment concept is one of 6
Smart City indicators, namely Smart Governance, Smart Economy, Smart People, Smart
Mobility and Smart Living.
Waste is one of the complex problems faced by both developing and developed countries
in the world. The waste problem is a common problem and has become a universal
phenomenon in various parts of the world, including being a problem in big cities in
Indonesia. The waste problem will become more serious if appropriate treatment is not
implemented immediately. The lack of public attention to sanitation still leads to the problem
of garbage remaining a serious issue for the government. If the garbage is still scattered and
poorly managed then the impact returns to the environment itself. The rotten smell caused by
the dump and improper management can be a source of disease transmission as well as the
blockage of drainage and river canals are some of the consequences of the lack of public
awareness of environmental hygiene. Then the role of the community is essential to create a
clean and healthy environment.
A clean environment is a blessing to society. Many are aware and many are not aware of
the hygiene of the surrounding environment. It can be reflected like there's still a lot of
garbage on the streets and also in the city parks. The garbage that was provided by the
sanitary agency was just a decoration on the street. Per this is also a factor in the fact that
there are still people who are lazy to dispose of garbage. Increasing awareness of
environmental hygiene, requires a unique approach so that each individual is interested in
disposing of trash in its place. Smart Trash can be designed to attract the attention of
individuals with its smartphone-based technology.
1.2 Objectives
1) Develop a user-friendly and cost-effective smart trash can prototype using Arduino.
2) Implement sensors to detect trash level, proximity, and potentially type (optional).
3) Integrate features like:
1. LED indicators for fill level and sorting guidance.
2. Buzzer alerts for full bins or incorrect sorting.
3. Wi-Fi/Bluetooth connectivity for data transmission (optional).
4. Solar panel integration for sustainable power (optional).
4) Conduct testing and refine the design based on user feedback.
1.3 Benefits
The theoretical foundation for an automatic trash bin with Arduino involves concepts
such as sensors, microcontrollers, and motors. Sensors like ultrasonic sensors can be used to
detect the trash level, while Arduino microcontrollers can process this information. Servo
motors or DC motors can be integrated to automatically move the trash bin lid. Additionally,
programming using languages like Arduino IDE is required to control these functions.
2.2 Arduino
Arduino is an open-source, single-board microcontroller designed to facilitate
electronic use in various fields. Derived from the Wiring platform, it features an Atmel
AVR processor, and its software has its own programming language. Arduino is currently
widely popular worldwide, with many beginners learning robotics and electronics through
it due to its ease of use. However, it's not only beginners – hobbyists and professionals
alike enjoy developing electronic applications using Arduino. The language used in
Arduino is not the relatively complex assembler but rather simplified C language with the
assistance of Arduino libraries. Arduino also simplifies the process of working with
microcontrollers.
2.3 Technology
Technology refers to the application of science and skills to create tools, devices, and
systems that are beneficial to humans. Its goal is to enhance efficiency, comfort, and
human capabilities in various fields. Technological development involves innovation,
research, and the application of knowledge to create new solutions. With the continuous
advancement of technology, its impact involves changes in how we communicate, work,
and live on a daily basis.
2.4 Automatic
Automation is the application of technology to control and operate a process or
system without direct human intervention. Its goal is to enhance efficiency, speed, and
accuracy in performing specific tasks. Automation can be found in various fields, ranging
from industry and manufacturing to households. The implementation of automation often
results in time and resource savings, and it can improve the quality and consistency of
work outcomes.
CHAPTER III
IMPLEMENTATION METHODS
3.1 Scope
1) Hardware Development:** Design and assemble the physical components of
the Smart Trash Can, including the Arduino microcontroller, sensors
(ultrasonic and load sensors), actuators (servo motors), LED indicators, LCD
display, and connectivity modules (Wi-Fi or Bluetooth).
6) Deployment and Field Testing:** Deploy the Smart Trash Can prototype in a
real-world environment to assess its performance under varying conditions.
Gather feedback from users and stakeholders to identify usability issues,
technical challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
7) Documentation and Reporting:** Maintain comprehensive documentation
throughout the project lifecycle, including design specifications, circuit
diagrams, software code, testing procedures, and user manuals. Prepare
progress reports and final documentation summarizing the project outcomes,
lessons learned, and recommendations for further development.
10) Ethical and Legal Compliance:** Ensure compliance with ethical standards
and legal regulations governing data privacy, environmental protection, and
waste management practices. Implement safeguards to protect user privacy
and prevent misuse of collected data.
The scope outlined above provides a comprehensive framework for the development,
testing, deployment, and evaluation of the Smart Trash Can system, encompassing both
technical and non-technical considerations essential for its success.
