Individual Task

The term 'advanced construction technology' covers a wide range of modern techniques
and practices that encompass the latest developments in materials technology, design
procedures, quantity surveying, facilities management, services, structural analysis
and design, and management studies. (DesigningBuildings, 2022)

Malaysia, one of the developing country in the world. As mentioned, construction industry
always the top industry that get Government’s concern. However, it seems like a cease
happened for the improvement about the technique of construction skill in Malaysia.
(DesigningBuildings, 2022)

Nowadays, there are several types of advanced construction technology that can be applied
by in order to manage construction works such as 3D printing, Building Information
Modelling (BIM) and Robotics. However, there is a slow respond for construction industry in
Malaysia in applying those technologies to handle their construction works. There can be
several reasons that ‘halang’ the use of the advanced construction technology that mentioned
above.

One of the biggest challenge that ‘halang’ most of the Malaysian construction industry in
applying Building Information Modelling (BIM) to manage the construction work is lack of
BIM experts in construction industry. Most of the workers refuse to learn new software as
they find it is a waste of time.

There are few recommendations to overcome the challenge mentioned above in

implementing BIM software in Malaysian construction industry. These recommendations
were categorized into two main groups which are spreading the awareness of BIM among
engineers and preparing construction firms to adopt BIM. (ABDULFATTAH, 2017)

With respect to spreading the awareness of BIM, engineering schools should offer BIM
courses in their graduate plans. In addition, seminars and presentations should be conducted
to educate the engineers about BIM as well as encouraging BIM through social media and
multimedia. (ABDULFATTAH, 2017)

In order to prepare construction firms in Malaysia to adopt BIM, some actions should be
taken such as hiring expert BIM managers and conducting monthly in-house training
programs. In-house training programs will help the construction industry to produce more
BIM experts in order to overcome lack of BIM experts in construction industry.
