Annotation: The teacher will post the triangles on the board, and ask
students to measure the angles of each triangle using a protractor. Let
four students go on the board and each of them will measure one angle
of a triangle. After that, another two batches of four students will
measure one angle of a triangle at a time.

B. Engage Questions:
1. What have you noticed about the lengths of the sides of each
triangle?
2. What have you observed about the measures of the angles of each
triangle?
Annotation: The teacher will ask the questions above and call students
to answer based on their observation. Let them identify the kind of
special right triangle involved in the previous activity.

Annotation: Students will be grouped into four. The teacher will assign
the first figure to groups 1 and 2, and the second figure to groups 3 and
4. Groups 1 and 3 will answer 𝑠𝑖𝑛 45° , 𝑐𝑜𝑠 45° , and 𝑡𝑎𝑛 45° , while
groups 2 and 4 will answer 𝑐𝑠𝑐 45°, 𝑠𝑒𝑐 45°, and 𝑐𝑜𝑡 45°.
The students will be given 5 minutes to answer the activity. Using a
cartolina/manila paper, each group will choose two representatives
and present their outputs in front of the class.
Proceed with the discussion without removing the student’s output.

In Geometry, the following sides of 𝟒𝟓° − 𝟒𝟓° − 𝟗𝟎° right triangles are
related as follows:
45° Hypotenuse
Leg (Leg × √2 )

Leg
where, the legs are congruent and the length of the hypotenuse is √2
times the length of a leg (hypotenuse = 𝑙𝑒𝑔√2).
If the length of the legs is missing and the length of the hypotenuse
ℎ𝑦𝑝𝑜𝑡𝑒𝑛𝑢𝑠𝑒
is given, use the formula 𝑙𝑒𝑔 = .

It can be seen in the triangle above that |𝐴𝐵| = |𝐵𝐶|. Let |𝐴𝐵| = |𝐵𝐶| =
𝑎. The length of the hypotenuse |𝐴𝐶| can be obtained using the
Pythagorean formula,
|𝐴𝐶|2 = |𝐴𝐵|2 + |𝐵𝐶|2
|𝐴𝐶|2 = 𝑎2 + 𝑎2
|𝐴𝐶|2 = 2𝑎2
|𝐴𝐶| = 𝑎√2

Annotation: Students will be paired for this activity. The teacher will
provide markers and answer sheets where each pair can write their
final answers. Using a powerpoint presentation, each expression will
be flashed one at a time. Students will be given 10 seconds per item
and raise their answer sheet once the time is up. For every correct
answer, they will receive 2 pts. Each pair will be ranked according to
their scores at the end of the activity and receive a reward.

G. Extend Directions: Use your mobile phone to capture three (3) real-life
examples or structures that forms a 45° − 45° − 90° triangle. Using
each structure, create a word problem and then try to solve it in a
separate sheet of paper. (10 pts. each)
