Let’s find out if you still remember our past lesson about
vowel diphthongs (oy, oi, ou, ow)

Vowel diphthongs are sounds formed by combining two


vowels in a single syllable. The sound begins as one vowel sound
and moves towards another.

Let us read the following words using the vowel diphthongs


oy oi ou ow
toy oil out owl
boy soil mouth brown
soy coil cloud crown
enjoy toil blouse frown
destroy boil house town

Read the phrases and encircle the words with vowel


diphthongs.
Example: an old toy Answer: toy

B. Development Our lesson for today is about irregularly spelled words. Are
you familiar with them? But before we proceed let’s have fun
through this thumbs up activity.

These are words that contain letters that are not individually
sounded or phonetically produced due to the combination of
letter-sound or other characteristic.

Here are other examples of irregular spelled words. Read and


spell the words after the teacher.
said erase earth
become give

Some words are read differently, not all letters are sounded.
For example, the word said, which rhymes with led and fed, can
be difficult to spell. The letters “ai” stand for the short e sound in
the word said, but this is in an irregular spelling.

I will give more examples of irregularly spelled words. Let


us read these following examples. Read the following words after
the teacher.

Lito's curiosity heightened when news about COVID 19


broke out. He has many questions about the things happening
around.
One day, when his mother was busy cleaning the house, he
asked, "Nanay, why do people wear mask when they go out?"
Her mother carefully explained the reason, so Lito would
understand.
While working on his module, he heard his older siblings
arguing about online and offline learning. When he asked them
about it, his siblings explained the difference between the two
modes of learning. After attentively listening, Lito said with great
awe "Mine is offline!"
He also asked his father, "Tatay, why can't I go outside and
play or go to school and to the park like you and Nanay?" Lito's
father answered so he would understand the present situations.
