(i). Normally open contacts
(ii). Normally closed contacts
(iii). Output loads
(iv). Timer
(v). Counter

QUESTION 2
Explain the ladder diagram rule with suitable examples. [10]

QUESTION 3
Write the ladder programming of the following logic gates (3 input switches);
(a). NAND gate [5]
(b). NOR gate [5]

QUESTION 4
What are the different PLC programming languages? Explain in brief. [5]

QUESTION 5
In developing a program for programmable logic controllers, a system design
technique involves the same steps regardless of whatever type of programming
language one may choose to use. List the major steps in creating a PLC program
for an industrial situation. [10]

QUESTION 6
Design the wiring diagram for the controller connections, assign the inputs and
outputs, and develop the ladder diagram which will accomplish the following
tasks;
• Any of three of the switches SWITCH1, SWITCH2, and SWITCH3, if
turned ON can turn the lighting ON.
• The fourth switch SWITCH4 is a Master Control Switch. If this switch is
in the ON position, the lights will be OFF [10]

QUESTION 7
Design a motor control circuit with two START buttons and two STOP buttons.
When a START button is depressed, the motor runs. By sealing, it continues to
run when the START button is released. Either STOP button stops the motor
when depressed. [10]

QUESTION 8
(a). Discuss the importance of FAIL-SAFE Switches. [4]
(b) There are three machines, each with its START-STOP buttons. Only one may
run at a time. Construct a ladder logic diagram with appropriate interlocking. [6]
