out number 1 in the grade .You are overwhelmed with stress as you’d like to
come out 1st in the maths class so you practice double the time you usually do in
order to “beat her”.

class with dark under eyes indicating he doesn’t get sufficient hours of
sleep.
o Sandile should learn to takes breaks in between his study sessions to
decrease his chances of feeling burnout due to long hours of studying.

o Instead of Sandile making jokes he could start journaling and
expressing his feelings which is a much healthier option .As he writes
down his feeling he’ll calm down and decrease his stress.
o Sandile should get a hobby for example: learning to play a new sport
such as cricket. This could help him decrease stress levels as he has
gotten an anxiety attack before.

Activity 2 : Conflict Resolution

2.1. Interpersonal conflict: A type of conflict which is a disagreement between two or more
people.
o As a matriculant learner you are constantly studying for upcoming exams you are
always busy. You are most likely to cancel meet-ups with your friend’s last minute
which would cause interpersonal conflict.
2.2. a.
b.

2.3.
o Stephanie found it more vital for her to continue studying for her exam rather than
assistanting her friend Akhile. She also could of second guessed helping Akhile as she
saw it more important to go out with a friend on Saturday than help Akhile.

o Stephanie did not reply to Akhile’s messaging mainly because she gives out negative
comments .Akhile does not treat Stephanie with respect

2.4.
o Akhile approached Stephanie in a rude manner “You’re so selfish”. This shows that
the conversation will not go well.
o An error Stephanie made was avoiding conflict at the beginning of the conversation
saying she was too busy studying .Avoiding conflict will not resolve issues.
o Stephanie did not pay attention to Akhile while she expressed her feelings.“(While
still paging through her notes)”
o Stephanie ended the friendship immediately just from the interpersonal conflict
that took place. She made a HUGE decision from her temporary feelings. She didn’t
make a rational decision.

2.5.
Changing the manner one approaches her friend would definitely be ideal. Can
approach youre friend wih a greeting and In a less aggressive manner.

work together to save their friendship.

role in a business as an employee. Your employer will not beg you to work

Activity 4 : Commitment to Decision Taken

4.1. Application : A written request for admission to a school or learning

dhdg institution.
3 difficulties school learners face trying to apply for higher education:
o The course you intended to study (your 1st option) is full due to one applying
late. Not getting space in desired course.
o Not qualifying for a course as one has an insufficient APS/not meeting bare
minimum requirement.
o You have higher competition .Studying institutions enrol students from all
over South Africa with outstanding results as first choice .If one got the bare
minimum results there is a high chance that a student would get accepted in
the course as space is limited in institutions.

4.2. It is important to choose the most suitable career path. A learner is

recommended to choose a scarce job as there are many saturated
careers .Choosing a saturated job would lead to unemployment after
graduating which wouldn’t be beneficial.

o Need to research and be aware on what your new environment will

be like. Research if the learning institution you will be studying at is
secure/safe. Inform yourself on that cities crime rates. As the learner
is responsible for their safety because as a female student you need
to be more cautious as South Africa has high numbers of Gender
Based Violence.
o One should research before applying to any university to find out the
percentage of how many students have been employed after
graduating .Find out how easy it is for a student that graduated from
that institution to find a job. As these statistics will inform you on how
great/bad an institution is.
o
4.3. One would want to start working immediately after high school to just
experience how to is to be earning a wage/salary for the first time. To be able to feel
independent as they are working for themselves and learn how to spend big masses
of money.
o A school leaver would work to provide for their family for example: Their
parents are currently unemployed as the unemployment rate is high and as a
parent they can not afford to give their child any pocket money. The child
starts working only because of the difficult situation they are in.
o As you witness your other friends have started working and could therefore
feel peer pressured to also start working as you see what you’re friends are
able to afford with their salaries/wages for example ; Your friend was able to
purchase brand new Nike Air Force 1’s now you’re interesting in working.

6|Page
o A learner would work before going to a higher education is to raise money for
their admission fees, accommodation and textbook expenses. Many people
can not afford to go to university so they would work now and then later
having enough money to apply to go to higher institutions.
