Three idiots
College life is about self-discovery, regaining one's identity, and, most importantly, taking
advantage of possibilities and upgrading one's standards. In this phase of life, you will
understand life in its entirety. It is filled with stress, self-doubt, uncertainty, and numerous other
issues. It is the stage of life where you grow independent and begins to comprehend the world's
nature as you observe that some of your classmates are ahead of you and others are behind you
due to failing grades. But this movie shows that you must always move forward despite the
challenges.
At the movie's start, you'll hear this phrase from Viru Sahastrabuddhe "life is a race … If you
don't run fast… you will be like a broken". This portrays the reality in college life, where everyone
should aim to be the best because you'll be broken behind if you don't. As I started my college
days here in USTP, it was hard but also fun. Some topics are hard to understand at first, but as
you practice and practice, the topics get easier, and it is now fun to learn. You have to run fast
because it is the same as working hard. In life, you need to work hard to conquer your goals.
In the movie, you'll see these three characters Farhan, Raju, and Rancho. In the life of Farhan,
from the moment he was born, his life or fate was already decided. His father wanted him to be
an engineer, so he went to engineering school. But Farhan never wanted to be an engineer. It is
because of his respect and love for his father that is why he chooses to be an engineer. He
always wanted to be a photographer; it was the job that he found joy in, and his passion made
him who he was. But just like what I've said, because of his father, he takes engineering. But as
he continued to strive hard and study, he noticed that his heart didn't have the passion for
becoming an engineer. Despite the hard work he did, he was never happy. This problem is
common today, where parents choose what their children might become. It is okay but have you
asked your child first what their goal is in life? Is that life the one he wanted? Because, like
Farhan, it will only make your child's life miserable and full of pressure. We must never choose
the profession our child wants, but let them choose themselves. Like Rancho said in the movie,
you must follow what your heart wants because that is where you'll experience true happiness
and feel motivated and contented. That is why we can see that Farhan becomes a photographer
instead of an engineer at the movie's beginning. You can see the happiness on his face that
despite making a low income compared to engineers, he was happiest when doing
photography.
The second character is Raju. Unlike Farhan, Raju wanted to become an engineer because of
financial problems. He had a rough childhood, and his father could not work due to medical
problems. Raju's dream was to graduate in engineering because it would give him a stable job
and offer him a salary to suffice his family's needs. As stated in the movie, he was a good
student in elementary and high school, but everything changed when he got into college. He
was very pressured. He always thinks about the negative, like what would happen if I can't finish
my course? Who will be the one to take care of my family? Negative thoughts like that altered
his mindset. You can see in the movie that he attempted to succeed but failed to do so. That is
because he was about to be expelled from the university for disrespecting Dr. Viru
Sahastrabuddhe. He cannot accept it, so when he sees a window, he jumps right into it.
Everything went downhill for Raju, but in those difficult times, he learned many valuable life
lessons. Committing suicide would not bring any good to us because it would not resolve any
issues in our lives; instead, it would worsen the case. As Raju heals and gets an interview for the
job, he is hired because he becomes true to himself. He didn't let negative thoughts alter his
mind. This teaches us that we can be anyone if he is just determined and strong to face the trials
we may face.
The last character which is Rancho was my favorite character in the movie. I have watched
this movie since I was in elementary and this movie motivates me to become an engineer.
Rancho's life was full of discoveries. He had a passion for things that he loved. He makes what
do what his heart wants to do. That is why compared to Farhan and Raju, Rancho is far ahead of
them because he is passionate about learning and is not afraid of taking risks. Even though
there are hindrances in his life, he doesn't give a damn about them and focuses on his life. That
is why sometimes, I wish to be like Rancho because I don't have the confidence and passion
Rancho has. But just like anyone else, Rancho also has a rough childhood. His real name wasn't
Rancho, but it was Phunsukh Wangdu; later in his life, he had over 400 patents. We can see in
the movie that Rancho is very passionate about engineering, but he also has some time to have
fun. This teaches us a very valuable lesson in life, not only for students but also for adults out
there that are working seven days a week. It would help if you had time to be happy, go on a
trip with friends, and do that one thing you always wanted to do because time is running out,
and you can never make time back. Even though we struggle, we must find time to do things
that excite us. In the story, Rancho is like a big brother to Farhan and Raju, and he pushes them
to bring out what they have for them to have something to be proud of. Whenever they
encounter a problem, he always says, "ALL IS WELL" Raju asked, "does it solve the problem?"
Rancho answers, "no, but it gives you the courage to face them." Ever since hearing that phrase,
I tell myself that all is well and that sometimes I achieve my goals, but sometimes I fail, but it's
okay as long as I learn something new. It motivates me to do things that I'm afraid to do.
Despite the uncertainty and fear of failing, I did stuff that made me a better person. He also
made me realize that choosing the right circle of friends is important in college and that friends
are our second family. Through ups and downs, true friends will always be there for you.
Rancho's character made me realize that to succeed. It would be best if you worked hard for it
because your hard work will never betray you.
There is also a character named Chatur in the movie. Chatur's personality in the movie is
greedy. It's okay to want to be the first in your class, but he is greedy. He'll do whatever it takes,
even though it is not the right thing to do to succeed. Eventually, Chatur became successful
because of his hard work, but his personality is the one thing that made me hate him.
Also, in the movie, we can see a girl named Pia, Viru Sahastrabuddhe's daughter. She has a
fiancé who, for me, was a scumbag. We can see the arrogance in his personality; whenever
something bad happens to his things, he yells about the price of that object. It's like his boasting
about it. He only values things that he can benefit from. For me, he only agreed to fiancé Pia
because of her status. If Pia didn't have that status, his fiancé wouldn't care for her. It teaches me
that you must choose someone who is there for you through the ups and downs. Someone who
will make you smile whenever you have a problem can make you forget the pain you've been
feeling and will love you unconditionally. Someday in our lives, we will meet our partners, and I
hope you'll love them unconditionally.
In conclusion, this movie taught me many lessons, not only in engineering but also in real
life. I recommend watching this movie; I have watched it at least 30 times because it's so good.
You'll feel great after watching this movie, especially as a college student. We all know that
college life is the hardest of all, but let's work hard and enjoy every moment like Rancho and his
friends did. We must balance our studies and happiness. Despite the difficulties that we will face,
continue moving forward.
