SYNOPSIS
INTRODUCTON-
The safety of a vehicle is the first priority while constructing and maintaining a road. This safety
is not assured when the condition of road is deprived. Most of the roads in India are congested
with poor quality and maintenance needs are not done as per the requirement. Increase in number
of vehicles has led to problems such as traffic congestion and increase in the number of roads
accidents. Potholes, formed due to heavy rains and movement of heavy vehicles is also a reason
for accidents and loss of human lives. Maintenance authorities need to regularly check the
quality of the roads in order for maintenance . Detection of such potholes helps the authorities to
maintain the condition of roads and also keep in track with its condition. The survey for such
maintaining analysis is done annually and time spent, cost for such actions is huge. One
approach to road damage detection is to use human reports to central authorities. While it has the
highest accuracy, assuming that people are fair, it also has the most human interaction and is not
comprehensive. Statistical analysis can be used to estimate damage probabilities of road
segments based on their usage intensity. Integration of vibration and vehicle counting sensors in
the pavement are used for statistical data collection. Surface analysis methods using Ground
Penetrating Radar (GPR) have been developed and commercial products do exist. Unfortunately,
this technology is using expensive equipment and therefore limit sits accessibility. As an
alternative, participatory sensing has the potential to increase the collected data resolution and
scope. There are several vehicular sensing systems for pothole detection. Some of these systems
use accelerometers for data acquisition. This section contains short revie w of pothole detection
algorithms implemented in such accelerometer-based systems. In addition we consider how
feasible would be to implement these systems on a platform with limited hardware and software
resources, such as Android based smart-phone.
PROBLEM STATEMENT-
Potholes are cracks and cavities on roads caused bit freezing. Over a long period of time roads
weaken under weight of heavy vehicles. This cause small cracks to form. Water from rain cause
the cracks to expand, continued pressure on the crack lead to potholes. As India continues to
suffer from worsening weather condition each year. This issue of potholes remains an important
issue. This project aim is to create an Android Application that Automatically records potholes
and logs their exact location using GPS. This will significantly increase the number of potholes
reported.
OBJECTIVES-
The system should be able to detect events.
The system should use a generic Android OS based.
The system should be able to run on different smart.
The system running on a smart-phone should be able.
System should be able to detect events during driving.
