WEEKLY SCHEDULE EXAMPLE
Monday: Recovery and Video Analysis
Video analysis session where the video analyst presents key findings from the previous match, including
team performance, opponent tendencies, and areas for improvement.
OPPOSITION ANALYSIS
Stages of Analysis:
1.Initial Report
2.Match Filming
3.Opponent Analysis
INITIAL REPORT
This phase consists of tracking the match schedule of the next opponents. Although it may seem trivial,
the goal is to know the next opponent. This initial report should give the staff an idea of what kind of
opponent we will encounter. In this phase, we do not perform tactical analyses but only observe factors
that include simple and easy-to-follow statistics.
INITIAL REPORT
Basic information about the opponent
MATCH FILMING
Recording the match is a fundamental process in analyzing the next opponent. We need to know how to film
a match to get a clear picture of what is happening on the field. This is important because in lower divisions
or at junior levels, matches are not filmed, and some teams do not have the budget for costly software. The
game recording must be made at any age level because the TV camera angle does not cover the whole field.
A proper recording should be made with a panoramic view
OPPONENT ANALYSIS
We can say that this is the most important process. The analysis is presented to the players, and we need
to make them understand as much as possible.
It's important for the analyst to have a good knowledge of the technical-tactical principles of organizing the
game and to be a keen observer in order to understand the game patterns of the opponents.
Mostly here is where the difference between a good analyst and an average one is made.
It's important to maintain an order of the images, taking into account the phases of the game.

Defensive Phase – Behaviors - We observe how the analyzed team behaves in the defensive phase in
different areas of the field:
OPPONENT ANALYSIS
Offensive Transition
This phase of the analysis indicates the team's behavior when they gain possession of
the ball.
OPPONENT ANALYSIS
Offensive Phase – Zone 1
We observe the collective behavior of the analyzed team in the possession phase and look for different
patterns.
Do they start the build-up from the goalkeeper (elaborately) or choose to build directly or vertically?
If they opt for direct or vertical, are they targeting a specific area?
Are they looking for a specific player?
If they choose the elaborate build-up, we look at the position and orientation of the defenders and
midfielders.
How large is the distance between players?
How do they react to pressure, pressing zones, pressing?
How comfortable are they with the ball in the build-up phase

OPPONENT ANALYSIS
Offensive Phase – Zones 2 and 3
We observe the collective behavior of the analyzed team in the offensive phase and look for different
patterns.
Do they follow patterns, or do they rely on the individual qualities of the players?
Are there key players in their offensive play?
Are the actions carried out in the central area or in the lateral zones?
How many players are involved? Do they become vulnerable at the moment of losing possession?
Do they prefer to create scoring opportunities through crosses?
Do they prefer to create scoring opportunities through central combinations?
How dangerous are they at finishing?
How efficient are they?

CONCLUSIONS
To have a complete analysis of the opponent, we must be constantly focused and attentive to any
changes that may occur unpredictably.
There is a possibility that the opponent might recover certain players who seemed unavailable, or there
might be last-minute injuries.
We should try to obtain as much information about the opponent as possible, especially in terms of
tactics. This aspect also includes observing the training sessions in the week leading up to the game, if
possible.
The work of an analyst and scout represents a process of continuous observation and analysis of the
football environment to reduce the degree of unpredictability.
In the weekly microcycle, the analysis of the opponent is normally presented to the players either one
day before or on the morning of the match day. It is recommended for the video analysis to last about
12-15 minutes.

LIVE
It is conducted during the match. Images can be sent at any moment to a coach on the bench or/and images
can be shown during the halftime break. The images shown during halftime can be subject to game scenarios:
POST GAME
It is conducted after the last played match.
In the weekly microcycle, it takes place on the 2nd or 3rd day after the match.
The post-match analysis is more detailed compared to the live analysis. We present both the things that went
well and the things that did not work.
It is recommended to first present the things that went well. This analysis can be presented in several ways
depending on the coach:
To present it as a video analysis of the opponent, respecting the phases of the game
To present it in turn with positive and/or negative things
To choose some situations from the game and repeat them in training. This is done perfectly if you have a
screen at the training ground

CONCLUSIONS
Structured Approach to Analysis: Analysis is a structured, phased process. It starts with a preliminary
investigation of the opponent before the match, continues with live analysis during the game, and concludes
with a detailed post-match review. This structure ensures a comprehensive understanding of the opponent and
the team's own performance.
Importance of Video Analysis: Video analysis plays a crucial role at all stages. Before the match, it helps in
understanding the opponent's tactics and key players. During the match, it supports real-time decision-making.
After the game, it provides a basis for detailed review and feedback.
Focus on Game Phases: Analysis is segmented according to the different phases of the game—defensive,
offensive, transitions, and set pieces. This segmentation allows teams to dissect the game into manageable
parts, focusing on specific areas for improvement or exploitation.
Adaptability and Real-Time Decisions: The analysis includes preparing for real-time adjustments during the
match. Teams must be ready to adapt their strategy based on live analysis, whether they are in control or need
to counter unexpected challenges.

CONCLUSIONS
Positive Reinforcement: Emphasizing what went well is recommended, especially at the start of the post-match
analysis. Highlighting positive aspects can boost morale and reinforce successful strategies and behaviors.
Customization to Coaching Preferences: The presentation and focus of analyses can be tailored to suit the
coaching staff's preferences, whether through detailed video breakdowns, focusing on positive/negative aspects,
or translating analysis into practical training exercises.
Continuous Learning and Adaptation: The process underscores the need for continuous observation, learning,
and adaptation. Analysts and coaches must stay alert to changes in the opponent's strategy, player availability,
and performance trends.
Tactical Versatility: The ability to switch to a secondary tactical plan if the primary strategy is ineffective
demonstrates the need for versatility and comprehensive game preparation.
