Related Key Terms Definition

1.Social Reconstruction Social reconstructionism is a philosophy

that emphasizes the addressing
of social questions and a quest to create a
better society and worldwide
democracy. Reconstructionist educators
focus on a curriculum that
highlights social reform as the aim
of education

2. Dynamic Assessment The term dynamic assessment (DA) refers to

an assessment, by an active teaching process,
of a child's perception, learning, thinking, and
problem solving.
3. Scaffolding Scaffolding is breaking up the learning into
chunks and providing a tool, or structure, with
each chunk

4. Zone of Proximal Development The zone of proximal development, is best

understood as the zone of the closest, most
immediate psychological development of
learners that includes a wide range of their
emotional, cognitive, and volitional
psychological proceses.

5. Social Constructivism Social constructivism is a variety of cognitive

constructivism that emphasizes the
collaborative nature of much learning

6. Apprenticeship Apprenticeship is a particular way of

follow the model, and the
journeyman provides feedback.

7. Peer Tutoring Peer tutoring is a flexible, peer-mediated

10. Situated Learning Theory idea and human action is a generalization,
adapted to the ongoing environment; it is
founded on the belief that what people learn,
see, and do is situated in their role as a
member of a community (Lave and Wenger,
1991).

LET’S SEE WHAT’S ON YOUR MIND

Assume you are a teacher. Write an essay on the topic: “What teaching methodologies can I
use to improve the performance of my students”. Apply the ideas and concepts about the socio-
cultural dimensions of learning.

Participation will be the teaching methodology that I will use to improve the performance of
my students, because participation and gradual entry into adult activities increase the
likelihood that children will engage in behaviors and thinking skills that are within their zone
of proximal development. Next is apprenticeship. Apprenticeship is a guided participation in
which a beginner works with an experienced mentor for a certain length of time to learn how
to do complicated tasks in a specific subject. I, as a mentor, will give structure and supervision
throughout the lesson so that they can learn according to my instructions. Finally, dynamic
tests generally provide a more objective evaluation of children's cognitive skills than generic
exams. By administering exams in this manner, I will be able to determine what my pupils are
capable of. They will learn the things that are plainly designed for them in this manner.
