ESR
E.S.R. (Westergren) 45 0 - 10 mm/hour
Interpretation
Sample Type: EDTA whole blood

Method : Modified westergren`s method

Interpretation: Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) is a non-specific phenomena and is clinically useful in diagnosis and monitoring
of various conditions associated with rise in acute phase reactions. It’s influenced by age, sex, menstrual cycle and drugs such as
steroids and contraceptives. ESR is increased in pregnancy. It is also increased in arteritis, polymyalgia rheumatica, arthritis, kidney
disease, heart disease, systemic vasculitis, inflammatory bowel disease, rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune diseases.
ESR is decreased in polycythaemia, sickle cell disease, heart failure, certain kidney and liver conditions.

Malarial Parasites (MP) - S

Malaria Parasite Not detected on present smear
Interpretation
Specimen: EDTA whole blood

Method: Microscopy-thin & thick smears

Interpretation :
1. Four species of plasmodium parasites are responsible for human malaria infections- P. falciparum, P. vivax, P. ovale, and P.
malariae.
Malaria is a parasitic disease characterised by fever, chills and anaemia. It is caused by a parasite that is transmitted from human to
human by the bite of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes.
2. Parasites are usually seen during febrile episode
Single smear does not rule out malaria.
Repeat smears may be required if strong clinical suspicion.
3. Parasitaemia after adequate therapy is indication of resistant stains.
Peripheral smear examination is a screening test and other methods like Malaria Antigen test and PCR should be used for confirmation
especially in low parasite index.

MALARIAL ANTIGEN - S
TEST MALARIAL ANTIGEN
RESULT NEGATIVE FOR P.VIVAX & P.FALCIPARUM.

Sample Type: EDTA whole blood

Method: Immunochromatography

Interpretation :
1. Four species of plasmodium parasites are responsible for human malaria infections- P. falciparum, P. vivax, P. ovale, and P.
malariae.
Malaria is a parasitic disease characterised by fever, chills and anaemia. It is caused by a parasite that is transmitted from human to
human by the bite of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes.
2. Early diagnosis of malaria is of paramount importance due to rising incidence of cerebral malaria and drug resistance associated with
P. falciparum malaria causing morbidity and mortality worldwide.
This test detects HRP-11 and pLDH antigen of Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax.
3. Early detection and differential diagnosis of malaria is extremely important as treatment depends on species and is required for better
patient care management and faster recovery. The assay is able to detect and distinguish P. vivax and P. falciparum infection and also
identify mixed infection.
Hemolytic samples, Rheumatoid factors containing samples and heparic, icteric samples can lead to impaired results.

Investigations Result(s)

Dengue Ns 1

Dengue NS1 Non-Reactive

Sample : Serum

Method: Immunochromatography.

INTERPRETATION:
DENGUE ANTIGEN (NS1) - Dengue antigen test allows an early diagnosis in primary & secondary dengue acute infection, with very
high specificity & sensitivity.
* Positive from day one of onset of fever.

NOTE:
A positive result should be confirmed by DENGUE NS-1 ELISA.
A negative result does not rule out dengue & hence serology test should be repeated.
