Description
The geothermal wells in this region is a sedimentary geothermal field, which allows the usage of
most of the wireline logging tools that is typically used in oilfield wells1.
Typically at total loss circulation and usually accompanied by squeeze job on top of the liner.

In 2002, there were 2 types of well configuration drilled2.
1) 20" Casing at 150 m (490 ft) 26" OH
13 3/8" Casing (Two stages) at 1800 m (5900 ft) 17 1/2" OH
9 5/8" Casing (Two stages) at 2500 m (8200 ft) 12 1/4" OH
7" Production Slotted Liner at 3200 m (10500 ft) 8 1/2" OH
- First two stages drilled with 1.10 – 1.15 SG WBM (Bentonite) – Non-consolidated sand.
- Last two stages drilled with partial / total loss with 1.03 – 1.05 SG WBM + Lignite.
Reservoir temperature 220 – 250°C
Average production/well is 50-70 tons of steam/hour.
Casing inspection is crucial due to the corrosiveness of geothermal wells. Recommend using
USIT.
For 2003, will run PLT (Spinner) in injection to find out real acceptation zone.

Topics : Optimize Steam Production From Existing Geothermal Field
The background
The formations are a mix of volcanic rocks and lavas of different origins, interbedded with tuffs,
ash deposits and shales in varying states of alteration. Also bear in mind since this is a
geothermal well, the bottom hole temperature can reach up to 600 degree F at 7000 ft.
Description
The program was to drill two or more hole sections through a single, common surface well outlet.
This also contributes to the fact that the formation can be extensively fractured. Thus it is very
important locate the types of rocks which are able to mechanically support open hole multilateral
junction. The DCS was looking closely at problem when well is drilled in Bulalo – the occurrence
of large stress concentration around wellbore. These stresses was modeled when & where it will
exceed the rock mechanical strength. DCS found that the rock in the formation is exposed an
extreme range of temperature due to the cooling by drilling fluids and heating by produced steam
(ranging from several hundred degrees).
Logging tools
Due to the extreme condition the selected tool used was FMS, LDL, CNL & DSI tool.
