Siemens nx manufacturing
Start manufacture setup
1. Go to applications
2. Machining environment
Configuration : cam_general
Create : mill planar
3. Activate top border bar by right clicking on the navigation menu
Then go to the operation navigator then choose geometry
To see this tool bar:
4. Clean setup: you want to have your work piece an in your work piece you want your MCS
You want to go from this:
To that:
5.double click on work piece. This will open :
Specify part : select the part/geometry you
want to make
The lights turn on when you have specified
the part and blank
Specified
To be
Specified
5.1 Specify blank: what is your stock
Bounding block is going to take te
most outer mesures and add the
stock you want
Ipw: in proces work piece is for
when you need more setups for
the same pice ( 2ND setup or
more )
Specify material: important for the
calculations of you speeds
and feeds!
6.create operations :
6.1 create operation menu :
Type: mil_planar or mill_contour
Operation sub type:hover over the
icons to have more explanations about
the type of operation
Location: where and what
Program: NC_Program or the name
you gave yours
Tool: see create tool
Geometry: it is important to put it
under MCS_MILL for program
structure so you see it like this in
your navigator:
Method: how do you want the
finishing to be? Also use full to save
time with the stock settings for the
operation! You can also create yours.
6.2 Operation subtype basics menu:
Generate tool path: you have to generate it by your self every time you make
changement in the settings
Verify tool path: 3D simulation of your tool path
To see it correctly you will have to do the first
simulation from within the home menu and go to
3D DYNAMIC to have a good visual
6.2.1 Geometry:
Specify part boundaries: click on the icon to open menu ( they can have some variations linked to
the operation type on what you can select!)
Selection method: different types
available like face, curve,… and you can fine tune
it under the top bar when this window opens
(automatic when available)
Tool side: is the operation on the
inside or outside of your
selection pocket or contour
Plane: leave on automatic most of the
time.
List: these are your selection sets if
you have different pockets in the
same operation you have to ADD
a NEW SET if you have an open
selection and you want to extend/cut
it you select the item in the list you
want to and this is going to appear:
Boundary type: open or closed
Tool side: on what side of the line is the
tool going to be working
6.2.2 TOOL
How to make new tool:
Option A: 1.
2.
3. Choose the type of tool you want
4.
5. If you have some specific parameters you need fill them in and then
press:ENTER
6.now you can choose the tool you want
Option B (manual):
1.1 choose subtype
1.2 make a name ( mill_test )
1.3 OK
1.4
6.2.3 tool axis: use +ZM Axis
7. Operation types ( use basics and add these)
7.1 7.2
7.1 Face milling with boundaries
Side note: if all the curves you select are not on the same height the program will choose the
highest curve as height reference
7.2 Planar profile
7.2.1 Planar profile for a contour with multiple depths
7.2.2 Planar profile fot chamfer
7.2.2.1 Setup basics
1. Make a chamfer mill
2.add a tracking point:
2.1
2.2
( i use a 6mm chamfer mil )
3.Make a new operation with planar profile
4.Select part boundaries 5 the curves you want to chamfer)
5 specify floor: use plane at a distance select the plane where you’re curves are and
give it a distance ( example: I need a 0.2 mm chamfer so I put in a distance of 0.2
when I select the face an reverse the direction )
6.Activate your tracking point: drive point is « name of your tracking point »
7.2.2.2 Tips and tricks chamfers
1. Extend lines: see 6.2.1
2. Always use a finishing method ( when chamfers are modeled )
3. If the chamfer is not drawn you will have to offset stock with the chamfer size
4. Cut pattern:Is it an open chain then use : profile
8. Random information that can be use full
1. Do not use the space bar use underscores_
2.radius compensation (RL/RO on heidenhain)
