CHAPTER 1 LO1 Examine appropriate research methodologies
and approaches as part of the research process
1.1 Reflect on the effectiveness of research methods applied for meeting objectives of
the computing research project. (P6)
1.1.1 Describe the entire process of conducting your research.
Given society's growing need for predictive information on future career trends, this research plays an
important role in providing a comprehensive view of how education data and analytics Big data can be used to
predict and shape trends in the career field. This research process is conducted in a series of specific steps,
including data collection, data processing, data analysis, and results presentation.

The first step of the research process is data collection. Data is collected from many different sources such
as databases of universities, training centers, and online education platforms. Information collected includes
majors, training programs, student and trainee information, and other relevant educational and career
indicators.

Once the data has been collected, the next step is to process and clean the data. This includes checking
data integrity, handling missing or inaccurate data, and converting data into the appropriate format to
perform analysis. This process requires precision and care to ensure that the data will be reliable for later
analysis.

Once the data has been prepared, the analysis process begins with the use of big data analytics techniques
and tools such as machine learning and data mining. This analysis aims to find relationships and trends in
educational data, including identifying predictive models and classifying career trends based on input
variables such as curriculum, skills needed, and labor market conditions.

The result of the data analysis is a series of predicted career trends. This may include occupations with
strong future growth potential, new skills needed, and changes in the labor structure. These results will be
presented in the research report, accompanied by charts, graphs, and detailed analysis.

Finally, the report will also discuss the implications of the results, emphasizing the importance of
predicting career trends in supporting educational and career decisions for individuals and organizations. . In
addition, the report will also propose directions for further development and research in this field. This may
include expanding data and analytics, improving forecasting methods, and research into the practical
applications of predicting career trends.

1.1.2 Evaluate methods of conducting research

In this part of the study, we will carry out an overview of the methods of conducting research, with the aim
of recommending the most effective means of data collection and analysis. This is an important part of the
research and development process, because choosing the right research method will directly affect the
accuracy and reliability of the results.

We will begin by looking at basic research methods such as experimentation, qualitative research, data
research, and behavioral research. Each method will be thoroughly evaluated to understand its strengths and
weaknesses. We will then continue with a discussion of two additional research methods, namely primary and
secondary research, to provide a more comprehensive view of how research is conducted in this field. .

By mastering and understanding the pros and cons of each research method, we hope to be able to select
and apply the most appropriate method for the specific goals of our research. Flexible combinations of
methods will also be considered to ensure multidimensionality and reliability of research results. This will
contribute significantly to providing meaningful and valuable suggestions and recommendations in this field of
research.

 Experimental Method:
- Advantage:

Allows to control extraneous variables and determine cause and effect relationships.

Study conditions can be reproduced and repeated to confirm consistency of results.

Provides a strong scientific basis for making assertions and hypotheses.

- Defect:

May not fully reflect actual conditions due to controlled experimental environment.

Some issues such as ethics and generalizability may be difficult to apply to some fields.

 Qualitative research methods:

- Advantage:

Enables in-depth study and better understanding of complex and multidimensional phenomena.

Suitable for studying issues of human consciousness, values, and perspectives.

Helps expand knowledge about social and cultural issues.

- Defect:

It is susceptible to problems of universality and generalizability because the observed sample may not be
representative of the entire population.

Difficulty in controlling extraneous variables and eliminating their effects.

 Data Research Methods:

- Advantage:

Provide specific numbers and data to support decisions and assessments.

Enables massive analysis and summarization of information from various sources.

Easy to organize and review, helping to produce highly accurate results.

- Defect:

May be limited by subjectivity in variable and model selection.

The causes and mechanisms of the relationships cannot be explained.

 Behavioral Research Methods:

- Advantage:

Provides insight into the reasons and causes behind human behavior.

Allows understanding of how people interact with each other and the social environment.

Easily applied to many fields such as psychology, business and medicine.

- Defect:

There may be difficulty in controlling extraneous variables and assessing their effects.

This method requires significant time and expense to collect and analyze data.

 Primary Research Methods:

- Advantage:

Allows collecting new data from the most direct and detailed source.

Provides insight and detail into the phenomenon under study.

Easily customize and adapt research workflows to adapt to your specific research needs.

- Defect:

Requires significant time and expense to collect and process data.

It can be difficult to find a random sample that is representative of the entire population.

It is easy to encounter problems of subjectivity and bias on the part of the researcher.

 Secondary Research Methods:

- Advantage:
Use previously collected data from different sources, minimizing time and costs.

Allows the use of large and diverse data from many sources to create rich and reliable results.

Ability to create an overview and comparative analysis between different studies.

- Defect:

Risks to the accuracy and reliability of data from heterogeneous sources.

Limited flexibility in changing research methods or adjusting research processes.

Care must be taken to ensure the appropriateness of data from available sources.

 Combination of Research Methods:

- Advantage:

Combining the advantages of both research methods, creating a comprehensive and multi-dimensional
view of the research problem.

Helps balance between detail and generality of research results.

Increase flexibility and diversity in data collection and analysis.

- Defect:

Requires a lot of resources and expertise to implement effectively.

Complexities may be encountered in integrating and coordinating results from different methods.

Requires special attention to ensure consistency and uniformity in the research process.

In fact, choosing the appropriate research method depends on the research objectives as well as the
specific context of the research problem. Flexible combination of methods can enhance the
multidimensionality and reliability of research, thereby ensuring that the results obtained are reliable and
have practical significance.
