2 (a) A sum of money was to be divided among Aaron, Beth and Charles in the
ratio 2 : 3 : 5. The largest share amounts to $1200.

Calculate

(i) The total sum of money to be shared


(ii) Aaron’s share
(iii) The percentage of the total amount that Beth receives

(b) (i) Some years ago US$1.00 was equivalent to J$3.50. Calculate the
amount in US$ that was equivalent to J$ 8 400.

(ii) After devaluation J$1.00 was worth 70% of its original value.

(a) Calculate the new rate of exchange for US$1.00 and hence

(b) Calculate the amount of J$ that would be equivalent to


US$ 2 400.

(c) In a sale the normal prices were reduced by 30%. Linda bought a
mountain bike. The sale price of the bike was $1400. Work out the normal
cost of the bike.
(d) James has a Job for which the basic rate is $25 per hour and the overtime
rate of pay is time-and-a-half the basic rate of pay. This week James
earned $1175. He worked 8 hours overtime.

(i) Calculate the amount he earned at the basic rate.


(ii) Calculate the number of hours that he worked at the basic rate.
(iii) James noticed that his earnings of $1 175 showed a decrease of
20% of his last week’s earnings. Calculate his earnings last week.

(e) In a certain country electricity charge is based on the following table

3 A scale of 1:15 000 is used to draw the map of a city

(i) Calculate the actual distance, in km, between two points in the city which
lies 86 cm apart on the map.

(ii) The actual length of the playground in the city is 225 m. Calculate, in cm,
the length on the map.

4 On the sheet sheet provided, triangle ABC is mapped onto triangle A’B’C' under
a reflection.

(i) Write down the equation of the mirror line.

(ii) Determine the coordinates of the vertices of triangle, A’’B’'C".

7 (a) The table below shows a frequency distribution of the scores of 100
students in an examination.

a scale of 2 cm to represent 10 students on the vertical axis, draw a
cumulative frequency curve of the scores. Start your horizontal scale at
20.

9 Pam visits the stationery store where she intends to buy x pens and y pencils.

(i) Write an inequality to represent this information.

The TOTAL number of pens and pencils must NOT be more than 10.

(ii) Write an inequality to represent this information.

EACH pen costs $5.00 and EACH pencil costs $2.00. More information about the
pens and pencils is represented by:

(b) (i) On the answer sheet provided below, draw the graph of the TWO
