Instructions For Installing The Oracle VM
Instructions For Installing The Oracle VM
4. Inside the Oracle Development folder, you should see the following files:
5. It is very important that you see the Oracle Development.vdi file of approximate 3.8gb there. Your virtual machine
will not work without it.
6. Copy the folder “Oracle Development” to wherever you want your virtual machine to be located.
7. Install Virtual Box by double-clicking the file “VirtualBox-6.1.6.exe.”
8. Leave all the default options ticked during installation. If you get a pop-up asking you to install a network driver
from Oracle Corporation, please select the install option.
9. After installation, run Virtual Box. You should see the following:
11. VirtualBox will ask if you would like to install the extension pick. Click on the Install button.
12. Scroll down on the terms and conditions and click the Agree button.
13. To add the VM you have extracted from your folder, click on the big green Plus button that is labelled Add.
14. Navigate to wherever you copied your “Oracle Development” folder in Step 6.
15. Select the “Oracle Development.vbox” file with the blue icon.
16. It will add the VM to your VirtualBox software. To run the VM you can double-click on it.
17. On the VM, you will see in the “My Computer” form that there are 3 drives:
• Local Disk (C:) – this is the local, virtual hard disk for the VM.
• VirtualBox Guest Additions (D:) – you can safely ignore this if it shows for you. It will not show for most
people.
• C_drive on ‘VBoxSvr’ (Z:) – this is a link to access the physical C: drive of your actual PC. You can use
this to copy to and from the VM. Your drive letter may be a different letter than Z, do not worry about this.
18. On the desktop of your virtual machine, you will see a file called “User Details.txt”. This contains the username,
password and host string/connection string to the locally installed database. Make sure you use the local
database, as you will not be able to connect to the VUT server outside of campus.
• DO NOT just close the virtual machine window and save your state, as this can cause problems with the installed
Oracle software. Always save your work and shut down the VM as you would any normal computer.
