TOPIC: LECTURE METHOD
BACKGROUND Lecture method has been in use for ages and is one of the best ways to disseminate knowledge in large classroom. It is one of the oldest methods of teaching in which the teacher focuses on theory of the syllabus. lecture method is an effective tool for preparations of candidate who vie to participate in various competitive exams and practical exams. Lecture method helps in memorizing things much faster and in an efficient way. Question Explain the situation where the use of the lecture method will be apt. Definitions Lecture Method is basically a teaching method where the teacher presents learning concepts to students while they listen passively without necessarily engaging in a discussion. Lecture method is transmissive method which is based on vertical learning, where by the teacher has all the knowledge and the know- how on a particular topic and he transmits it to students. In this teaching method the teacher focuses more on the theory of a lesson. Benefits of lecture method ❑ Classes flow smoothly and without reasons for lag which saves valuable classroom time. ❑ Classroom lecture method of teaching can be modified for larger students’ population with ease. ❑ Organized lesson structure: students can emulate the pattern and speed set by professors, thus, doing away with the hassle of creating a separate study plan. Scenarios where the use of the lecture method may be apt: Introducing new topics. Handling Large class sizes Providing context or background information about a topic. Summarizing complex materials. While the lecture method can be effective in these situations, it is important to complement lectures with interactive and engaging activities to promote student engagement, understanding, and retention of the material. LIMITATIONS This method is useful in large classes, but it also has some limitations. ❑ This method makes the students passive listeners. ❑ There is very little scope for pupil activity. ❑ It is against the principle of learning by doing. ❑ It does not take into consideration individual differences. ❑ It does not develop power of rezoning of the students. ❑ It becomes monotonous to the students. RECOMMENDATIONS Though this method has much limitation but still it is the most used method. The lecture method can be made effective by using following points; ❑ Subject matter should be arranged properly. ❑ Teacher should have process in between the lesson. ❑ These should be abundant repetition of the topic. ❑ The teacher should encourage students to ask questions ❑ Teaching aids should also be used to make the lecture effective. CONCLUSION Thus, we conclude that the lecture method can be very effective, if it is made more interactive and interesting for students. THANK YOU FOR LISTENING
