Where is the lie?
Tina’s Statement
Tina has always been a believer of superheroes. She once told us that her Auntie was once part of the
Avengers that saved the world back then in the great war against Thanos. When asked what’s the name
of her aunt, she somehow stutters and told us that it was a secret to never be revealed. We somehow
got skeptical so we asked her mother about the story and her mother only said “Oh dear, I guess we’re a
family of superheroes then”. When we confronted Tina about this, she only got mad and told us, “Stop it,
or I will call Tito Strange to get back on you”. Why is she so pressed? What’s there to get mad if she is
telling the truth, right?
Marco’s Statement
Marco has always been fond of technology. He would always be updated with the new equipment and
gadgets being produced globally. One time, he told us that Elon Musk created a car capable of running
without gas, and only a sufficient amount of electricity, like a rechargeable device, is needed to keep it
going. He showed us documentaries, photos, and articles from verified news websites published all
around the globe about the creation of what they call now as Tesla. We sure are shocked about the
news, and wonder if flying cars would be possible in the next couple of years.

1. With the statements presented, where do you think is a lie? Why do you think so?
Can I hear Jhake to answer this question?
Very good! How about the next question, Nievel?
2. How do you usually know when someone is lying?
Excellent!
3. How do you know when someone is telling the truth?
For the last question, let us have Divina to answer.
Students will read the statements.
Tina’s statement is a lie because she can’t provide solid evidence unlike Marco who showed
proofs and evidence of his claim.
I will know if someone is lying if they can’t justify their claims and cannot provide relevant
information.
If someone is telling the truth, s/he is confident when stating their claim and they can state
factual information by showing evidences and proofs of the relevance of the information.
Very good everyone!
We are already in a world where information is just a piece of stone waiting to be picked up and
cast off. In gathering information around us, it is important for learners like you to test and
evaluate the relevance of information and how idea becomes worth in the process.
Our new topic is called Judging the Relevance and Worth of Ideas.
Before we dig deeper on our lesson for today, let us first familiarize these terms as we will
encounter them later.
