IELTS SPEAKING PART 2
Specific Topic
Describe 1 out of 3 things: a person, an object, an event
SPEAKING PART 2 CONTENT

• It’s a face-to-face talk to the examiner (3-4minutes)

• It tests your ability to talk about a topic, develop your ideas about a topic, and relevant
vocabulary and grammar.
• The examiner will give you a ‘task card’ with written prompts.
• The examiner will ask you to talk about the topics and include the points that you can cover
in your talk. The topic is about a personal experience.
• One minute to prepare your talk, and you will be given a pencil and paper to make notes
(do not write on the task card)
• You must talk for 1-2 minutes about the topic. You can use your notes to help you.
• Then the examiner will ask you one or two more questions on the same topic.

Questions are related with Topic Card
Speaking Part 3
• A two-way discussion with the examiner
• Questions are usually related with the topic card, but more general
• 4-5 minutes
• There is no right or wrong opinion because the examiner is grading based on the language
that you use, not the content.
• It is expected that:
• You give thoughtful extended answers that are directly addressing the question
• You need to answer the questions that are asked and don’t go off topic
• You need to provide opinions and explanations (such as reasons behind your opinions
and examples)
• You give extended answer of about 20-40 seconds
• You can add more language features to add up your score with: comparison contrast,
conditional clauses, and appropriate verb tenses
