1. OBJECTIVE
To define the minimum technical requirements for for Medium Voltage AC Motors in a Combined Cycle
Power Plant.
Deviation requests shall be brought to the attention of the equipment engineer. Agreed deviations to
be recorded in the equipment specification.

2. SCOPE OF APPLICATION
This specification is valid for Medium Voltage AC Induction Motors with rated voltage 6.6kV for direct
on line starting (DOL)1, for the Project EVM II.
Motors will be as per IEC and ‘Codes and Standards’ given in Item 5.
Specific requirements for motors in hazardous areas, for example explosive atmospheres, are not part
of this document. These requirements are covered by the corresponding equipment specification.

6. MV AC MOTORS – ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS

6.1. General

7.1. General

7.1.7. Number of sequential starts If not otherwise required in the Equipment Technical Dossier, a

 three (3) successive starts with the motor
initially at maximum ambient temperature
 two (2) successive starts with the motor
initially at full load operating temperature

7.1.8. Type of cooling Refer to Equipment Technical Dossier of driven machine:


 Air Cooled, Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled Machine, self-
ventilated over complete range

 Terminals shall be marked for phase sequence U, V, W, to
correspond to the correct direction of rotation and supply
voltage sequence.
 Direction of rotation has to be stated in the Motor Data
Sheet and will be checked during Routine Test.

8. TEST REQUIREMENTS
Tests shall be performed in accordance with latest issue of applicable standards, refer to item 5.
Routine and type test reports shall be provided as part of the documentation. Routine Tests have to be
performed on each motor. Full type test reports have to be provided for the delivered type of motor.
Existing type test certificates are acceptable.
Tests shall be carried out according the requirements of the motor seller, but at least following tests
shall be included:
8.1. Test on Rotors
8.1.1. Bearing isolating check (if applicable)

8.2. Routine Tests, on each complete Motor


8.2.1. Visual inspection, dimensional check and check of rating plates

8.2.2. Check of completeness of accessories (auxiliary terminal boxes, temperature


detectors, space heater etc.) and functioning of heater and temperature detectors
8.2.3. Measurements on accessories
 Insulation measurement
 Withstand voltage test

8.2.4. Check of terminal markings and


Direction of rotation versus phase sequence
8.2.5. Resistance measurement of stator windings at ambient temperature

8.2.6. Insulation measurement of stator windings between phase and earth (dielectric test)

8.2.7. No load measurement at rated voltage and frequency, quantities to be measured:


voltage, current, speed, bearing temperature, power and losses.
8.2.8. Vibration measurement

8.2.9. Locked rotor test, starting torque and starting current,


quantities to be measured: voltage, current, power and temperature of windings.
8.2.10. Withstand voltage (High voltage) test on motor and fitted MV-terminal box
(2 x Un + 1000 V rms, minimum 1500 V rms)
8.2.11. Overspeed test with 120 % motor's working speed for 2 minutes
