Title: Cognex Connection to OMRON CJ series PLC Via Ethernet/IP

PURPOSE

This document will cover how to integrate an Insight camera into the CX One Network Configurator for use with an
Omron CJ series PLC. Before beginning, the correct EDS file for the camera being used will be needed, ideally
from the version of the Insight Explorer software that matches the firmware of the camera being used.

TECHNICAL DETAILS

First launch the Network Configurator for Ethernet/IP from the Start Menu > OMRON > CX ONE folder.
Install EDS files to Network Configurator. Expand Vendor > Cognex > In-Sight Vision Systems > IS2000 and drag
to the Etherner/IP network segment:

Right click on camera and select Change Node Address to the IP address of the camera:

Double click on the camera to put up the device parameters dialog. The input and output assembly sizes are
pulled from the EDS file. If they are changed from their defaults, an error will result, so leave them at the 496
byte size. Click ‘OK’ to close this dialog.

Expand Vendor > Omron > Communications Adaptor > CJ2M and drag to the Ethernet/IP network segment.
Right Click on CJ2M and select Change Node Address to the IP address of the PLC. Double click on the CJ2M
and select the camera in the Unregistered Device List, use the down arrow to move it to the Registered Device
list:

From the Registered Device list double click on the camera. From the ‘Originator Device’ side, click the ‘Edit
Tag sets’ button for the Input Tag Set:

From the Edit Tag Sets click Edit Tags in the lower left. Click New in the Edit Tags dialog. Enter a start
address for the Input tag Set (D100) and select a size of up to 496 and click ‘Regist’, then ‘Close’ :

Click OK to close the Edit Tags dialog and yes to the message that pops up. Click OK to close the Edit Tag
Sets dialog. Once back at the Edit Connections, there is a blank drop down under the Edit Tag Sets button.
Clicking it will allow you to select the input tag set that was just created:

Leave Connection type to MultiCast. From the Originator Device side click the Edit Tag sets button for the
Output Tag Set. From the Edit Tag Sets click Edit Tags in the lower left. Click New in the Edit Tags dialog.
Enter a start address for the Input tag Set (D200) and select a size up to 496 and click ‘Regist’, then ‘Close’.
Click OK to close the Edit Tags dialog and yes to the message that pops up. Click OK to close the Edit Tag
Sets dialog. Once back at the Edit Connections, there is a blank drop down under the Edit Tag Sets button.
Clicking it will allow you to select the output tag set that was just created:

Leave Connection type as Point to Point Connection. Click the ‘Regist’ button then the close button:

You will now see the input and output assemblies mapped to the PLC memory that was just setup:

Click OK to the Edit Device Parameters button. Under the Options Drop down menu > Select Interface >
Ethernet I/F:

Under the Network drop down menu select Connect. Select the LAN adaptor from the Select Interface dialog
and click OK :

Select the TCP:2 from the list of network and click Ok, this will pop up the Select Connected Network dialog
where you can create a new network or use the existing Network (Ethernet/IP_1):

Click ok to use the existing network. You should then see the status light turn blue on the Ethernet/IP_1 tab in
the Network Configurator as well as seeing On-Line in the lower right of the status bar at the bottom of the
Network Configurator dialog
