“A RESOLUTION ADOPTING NATIONAL NUTRITION COUNCIL GOVERNING


BOARD RESOLUTION NO. 06 SERIES 2012 “THE 2012 NUTRITIONAL
GUIDELINES FOR FILILIPINOS”

WHEREAS, Section 15, Article II of the 1987 Philippine Constitution provides that
“The state shall protect and promote the right to health of the people and instill
consciousness among them;

WHEREAS, Section 2, Article 1 of the 1987 Constitution of the Philippines states in


part that the Philippines xxx adopts the generally accepted principles of international law as
part of the law of the land xxx”;

WHEREAS, Republic Act 7160, otherwise known as the Local Government Code
1991 stats that Local Government Units (LGU) shall endeavor to provide health services
which include the implementation of programs on maternal child care;

WHEREAS, in the people – centered nutrition vision for the better and progressive
barangay in the Municipality of Odiongan and not just mere recipients of the program
implementation of health services for our beloved children;

WHEREAS, malnutrition and diet – related non-communicable diseases remain to be


a problem in the Philippines and that poor nutrition can be caused by poor nutrition
practices as a result of inadequate information on proper diet and nutrition behaviors;

WHEREAS, the Food and Nutrition Research Institute – Department of Science and
Technology (FNRI – DOST), through an inter-agency and multi-disciplinary technical
working group, developed the 2012 National Guidelines for Filipinos by undertaking the
necessary process including multi-sectoral consultations;

WHEREAS, in consideration of the benefits of adopting a revised Nutritional
Guidelines for Filipinos that is relevant to the current nutritional and related situation, to
adopt the 2012 National Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos as the official nutritional
guidelines in the country, as follows:

1. Eat a variety of foods every day to get the nutrients needed by the body.

2. Breastfeed infants while continuing breastfeeding for 2 years and beyond for optimum
growth and development.

3. Eat more vegetables and fruits every day to get the essential vitamins, minerals and
fiber for regulation of body processes.

4. Consume fish, lean meat, poultry, egg, dried beans or nuts daily for growth and repair
of body tissues.

5. Consume milk, milk products and other calcium-rich food such as small fish and
shellfish, every day for healthy bones and teeth.

6. Consume safe foods and water to prevent diarrhea and other food and water-borne
diseases.

7. Use iodized salt to prevent Iodine Deficiency Disorders.

8. Limit intake of salty, fried, fatty and sugar-rich foods to prevent cardiovascular
diseases.

9. Attain normal body weight through proper diet and moderate physical activity to
maintain good health and help prevent obesity.

10. Be physically active, make healthy food choices, manage stress, avoid alcoholic
beverages and do not smoke to help prevent lifestyle-related non-communicable diseases.

WHEREAS, there is a need to adopt the above mentioned resolution to prevent


malnutrition and diet-related non-communicable diseases in our Barangay.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED as it is hereby resolved by the


Sangguniang Barangay of Barangay Agnipa to adopt A RESOLUTION ADOPTING
NATIONAL NUTRITION COUNCIL GOVERNING BOARD RESOLUTION NO. 06 SERIES
2012 “THE 2012 NUTRITIONAL GUIDELINES FOR FILILIPINOS”.

BE IT RESOLVED FINALLY, that copies of this resolution be forwarded to all


concerned for their information and guidance;

APPROVED AND ADOPTED by the Sangguniang Barangay this 16 th day of


February 2024 at Barangay Agnipa, Romblon, Romblon.
