Tax practitioner assistance


For registered tax professionals who have not been able to resolve an issue
through existing channels, such as via our website or on the phone. Our tax
practitioner assistance is available to help resolve certain matters.

Lodgment
We have a range of support options available to help with your clients' lodgment
obligations. If you are experiencing difficulties meeting your lodgment program for
reasons beyond your control.

Natural disasters support


If you or your clients are affected by a major incident or natural disaster event that
causes disruption to life or business, we'll work with you to help sort out you or your
clients' tax affairs.

Debt
If your client can't pay by the due date, we can offer support measures and help
with paying to help you stay on track.

Data and cyber security


If you or your practice have been impacted or you think you may have been

you can use the phone services available for general taxpayers.

Working with us online is fast and secure. If transactions and information are

services you need. Where possible, we do this outside normal business hours in
scheduled system maintenance.

What Open Forums offer


With guest speakers from the ATO and the Tax Practitioners Board, our Open
Forums are interactive WebEx webinars. You and your staff will have an opportunity
to:

hear about the latest updates and upcoming changes to tax and super
raise questions and join in discussions about matters of importance.
Your attendance may contribute towards your continuing professional education
(CPE) with the Tax Practitioners Board.

Current Open Forums


Our 2022 Open Forums program is now complete, and we would like to thank you
for your ongoing support and engagement this year.

Our 2023 program will kick off early next year, so keep an eye out on our website
and register for the 2023 sessions as they become available.

How to join in
1. Check the sessions and times available on our WebEx events list page . Unless
stated otherwise, times are Australian Eastern Daylight-savings Time (AEDT)
from October to March and Australian Eastern Standard time (AEST) from April
to September.
2. Register for events that interest you (numbers are limited for each forum).
3. We will send you a confirmation email with the details you need.
4. If you cannot make the forum or you need to contact us about your registration,
you can email us.
5. If you are logging into WebEx for the first time, you can install and run the
program before your session by going to our WebEx page .
6. If you can't make a session, check back regularly as we will run multiple
sessions for each topic. The schedule will be updated with more dates and
discussion topics in coming months.

About Tax practitioner assistance


Use Tax practitioner assistance to resolve matters you have been unable to resolve
through other channels. It is not designed to be the first contact you make with us
on the matter.

All steps and criteria in the request must be completed to ensure it is accepted.

Eligibility
Tax practitioner assistance (TPA) is available to all registered tax professionals who
both:

represent clients in a tax professional capacity


have the authority to act as the client’s authorised representative.
You should seek to resolve the relevant matter through one or more of these
support channels before using this service:

Online services for agents


Phone or other ATO email mailbox service found on our website.

What you can use TPA for


You can use this service for help with:

tax and superannuation law-related matters that relate specifically to your


client (excludes law interpretation, advice and guidance and Rulings)
administrative matters relating to your client or to a practice management
matter.
What you cannot use TPA for
This service is not for tax professionals experiencing difficulties meeting lodgment
obligations. We have dedicated programs available for help with lodgment.

If you need help with a client's debts or payment plans you can manage these
through Online services for agents.

TPA should not be used to lodge complaints. If you wish to lodge a complaint, refer

How to request assistance


All 'How to request assistance' steps and all other criteria within the TPA request
must be completed to ensure your request is accepted.

You can apply for tax practitioner assistance by submitting your request through
Practice mail in Online services for agents:

Step 1: Complete all mandatory fields and save the Tax practitioner assistance form
(PDF, 217KB)

We will reject your request if you have not included all required information.
To download this form to your computer, right click and select Save target
as or Save link as.
Always use the Save form button in the form to save the request.
Step 2: Select the Practice mail topic: General questions, problems, and help

Step 3: Select the subject Submit Tax Practitioner Assistance Request Form

Step 4: Attach your request form to the Practice mail message

What happens next

You will receive a receipt ID as acknowledgement of your request.


We may need to contact you if we need further information.
We aim to resolve your request as soon as possible. However, some requests may
take up to 28 calendar days or longer once all necessary information has been
received.
