Final Project Directions
An individual final project that will comprise 20% of your course grade.
You must submit a Project Proposal Form and have it approved by me.
Projects will be graded using the Sociology Presentation Rubric. Consult this
early and often to make sure you are meeting the project criteria.
1) Pick a focus from the topics in which we have not discussed this year in
class. Pick something that interests you the most and get approval from
Mr. Cooper. I do not want you to do the entire chapter but rather pick a
subtopic within these chapters to examine.
4) Presentation:
a. -Your presentation must be a minimum of five minutes and a
maximum of ten that includes an electronic presentation that
includes all aspects of research. (PowerPoint,
i. Presentation needs to be in 36 font. No more than
(approximately) 20 words on a slide. If doing PPT
ii. Include some sort of handout to help students understand
the major concepts you are presenting.
iii. Dress appropriately
iv. Power Point: Attach a copy of your power-point notes to the
paper. Use the outline form please
v. An outside source that would better illuminate the class to
the topic you are presenting.
5) Annotated Bibliography –
i. Your presentation must be accompanied by a brief
annotated bibliography to be turned in on the day of the
presentation.
ii. Annotated bibliography must include the full citation of a text,
article, website etc. used for research when creating your
presentation along with a brief paragraph description of the
information gained from the text.
iii. MLA Format
iv. Must have a minimum of four sources (your text can count
as one)
--All final projects need to demonstrate that you conducted research using a
variety of current and valid sources. (Yes, you may use your textbook – though
this will impact your research grade if you use it as a formal source).
--The overall goal of these presentations will be to inform the class on the
subjects that you have selected. All of us want to come away with a better
understanding of the topics being presented.
--Be CREATIVE. Do something that no one else would think of to spice up your
presentation. Short movie clip…..etc.……
--All form of electronic media must be submitted to Mr. Cooper no later than 1
Hour before the start of the final.
Explain how your topic relates to Sociology (if it is from the text book, provide page numbers as
well).
What sources do you plan to consult? What specific information do you hope to get from these
sources?
