Application based questions (HOTS)

-Transfer of Learning-
Marks
(3 marks each)
1. A goat was tied with a rope of length 3m in a square field measuring 8m
x 8m.Find the area it can graze? Also, find the area the goat cannot
graze.

2. ABCD has area equal to 28 sq units. BC is parallel to AD. BA is

perpendicular to AD. If BC is 6 units and AD is 8 units, then what is CD?

3. Rahul wants to shield the cylindrical vessel with a metal sheet. The
cylindrical vessel is 1m height and can hold 1.54 liters of liquid. How
many square meters of metal sheet would be needed to make it?
4. A rectangular examination hall having seats for 500 candidates has to be
built so as to allow 4 cubic meters of air and 0.5 square meters of floor
area per candidate. If the length of hall be 25m, find the height and
breadth of the hall.

Case Study
Marks
(4 marks each)
1. Anoop started constructing this house in a village. There was too much
shortage of water in that village. So he thought of constructing a well to
meet the need of water. He discussed this matter with his wife Anupam
and both of them decided to get a well dug. They hired few labourers for
this work. They told the labourers that the well’s diameter should be 7m.
The labourers managed to take out an earth of volume 770m³.
Based on the information, answer the following questions:
(i) How much depth did they dug out?
(ii) If there were 20 labourers hired, then how much volume of earth on
an average did each labourer has dug out?
(iii) If they got 1,40,000 liters of water in the well after digging , then find
the water level in meters .

2. Ali lives in Abu Dhabi in UAE. On the very hot days of July, he thought
that if humans need water, birds need water too during these hot
summer days. As it is our duty to take care of the eco system around us,
Ali, being a kind-hearted man decided to prepare a vessel to provide
water for birds. He found a flexible plastic rectangular sheet of length
44cm and height 15cm. He rolled it along its length and taped it to make
a cylinder, and also made a base for it to make it a vessel.

(i) The curved surface of cylinder formed is:

(a) 540cm² (b) 560cm² (c) 640cm² (d) 660cm²
(ii) The radius of the base of the cylinder is:
(a) 2cm (b) 7cm (c) 3.5cm (d) 10cm
(iii) How much will be the area of square sheet left unused after
removing the circular base of cylinder from it?
(iv) Find the volume of water that can be filled in the cylinder.
3. During Covid times people prefer using homogenized milk, UHT Processed and
aseptically packed in an exceptional six layer, tamper-proof Tetra Packaging
with 0% bacteria and 100% pure health. This new six layer interfere proof,
prevents air and freshness, light and bacteria from entering the pack. As an
effect, the milk stays fresh and pure for a minimum of 180 days until opened,
even without refrigeration. The milk is packed in cuboidal containers of
dimensions 15 x 8 x 5 and these containers are packed in number of 10 in a
larger cuboidal cartons of dimensions with base area 250cm³.(All dimensions
are in cm)

(a) How many liters of milk does one tetra milk pack contain?
(b) What will be the height of the larger carton?
(c) By how much will the height of the carton increase if 20 more packs
were added?
