Natal DLP RightTriangleSimilarity

Students demonstrate their understanding through solving example problems and a short quiz at the end. The lesson aims to help students recognize parts of right triangles, explain similarity theorems, and apply the theorems to find missing lengths and altitudes.

A Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics 9

I. LEARNING COMPETENCIES

Content Standards
The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of triangle
similarity.
Performance Standards
The learner is able to investigate, analyze and solve problems
involving triangle similarity through appropriate and accurate representation.

Learning Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students are able to:
1. recognize the parts of a right triangle;
2. explain the right triangle similarity theorem including the geometric
means theorem; and
3. find the missing length and altitude using right triangle similarity
theorem.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Chips

III. LESSON PROPER

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer

Everyone please stand up and let us

pray.
Our Almighty God,
Give me added peace, subtract anything in
me not pleasing to you, take on my gift to the
next power and divide the sea for me to walk
into your promise.
Amen

2. Greetings

Good morning, class!

Good morning, Ma’am!

3. Checking of Attendance
For our attendance, secretary of the
class is there any absentees for today?
There is no absentees for today, Ma’am!
Very good, class!
4. Review
As a review, what is the SSS Similarity
Theorem?
SSS Similarity Theorem
Two triangles are similar if the
corresponding sides of two triangles are
proportion.
Very good! It is good that you can still
recall our previous discussion.
B. Developmental Activities
1. Motivation

Before we start, let’s stretch first our

bodies by dancing, “The Banana
Dance”

(The teacher will demonstrate the

dance)

1. Peel Banana (2x)

2. Cut Banana (2x)

3. Eat Banana (2x)

4. Digest Banana (2x)

5. Out Banana (2x)

(The students will dance)

2. Activity

Let’s start by having an activity entitled,

“RIGHT Gibberish: RIGHT Part”

Mechanics:

1. The teacher will show a picture of

triangle.

2. The students must identify the parts

of the given triangle.

3. The student who will volunteer and

get all the correct answer will receive a
chip.

Given:

Clue:
1. Lung-Gear-Leg = _____

2. She-Your-Tear-Leg = _____

3. High-Pou-Tee-Nose = _____

4. All-Tee-Tuned = _____

I will give you 1 minute to complete the

parts.

Times up! What is your answer?

(The students will do the activity)

Very good, class! Answer:

1. Longer Leg
2. Shorter Leg
3. Hypotenuse
4. Altitude
3. Analysis

a. Based on the activity, what type of

triangle does we have?
Right Triangle is a triangle with one right
angle.

b. What are the parts of the triangle?

The parts of the right triangle are:
1. Longer Leg
2. Shorter Leg
3. Hypotenuse
4. Altitude
From that, we will be able to understand
our topic which is the Right Triangle
Similarity Theorem.

Altogether, please read.

Right Triangle Similarity Theorem: If the
altitude is drawn to the hypotenuse of a right
triangle, then the two triangles formed are
similar to the original triangle and to each
other.
Take a look at this picture.

What is the name of the given triangle?

The ∆ACB
What is the altitude?
The altitude of the given triangle is CD.
What are the right triangles being
formed after having the altitude?
The ∆ADC and ∆CDB
What is the similarity correspondence if ∆ACB ~ ∆ADC ~ ∆CDB
you are going to focus on Right Triangle
Similarity Theorem?

Since we are already familiar with the

parts of the given right triangle. Let’s
proceed with the Geometric Means
Theorem.

I want you to take note because after

that we will be answering questions.

Example:

1.

2.
Solve for ST.

3.
Solve for x, y, and z.

Is it clear class? Do you have questions or

clarifications?
Yes, Ma’am.
None, Ma’am.

4. Abstraction
What is Geometric Means Theorem?
Geometric Means Theorem: In a right
triangle, the altitude from the right angle to
the hypotenuse divides the hypotenuse in
two segments.
What is the Altitude Rule?

Altitude Rule: The length of the altitude is

What is the Leg Rule? the geometric mean of the lengths of the two
segments.

Leg Rule: The length of each leg of the right

triangles is the geometric mean of the
lengths of the hypotenuse and the segment
of the hypotenuse adjacent to the leg.

5. Application

Directions: Find the missing length.

x =?
y =?
b =?
Altitude/h =?

For your group activity, you only have 5

minutes to finish your work

Let’s start. Answer Key:

(each group will present their work)

Very Good class!

6. Evaluation

Now, kindly get 1/2 crosswise and let’s

see if you really understand our
discussion today. You have 5 minutes
to finish your quiz.

Directions: Analyze and solve for the

missing value using Triangle Similarity
Theorem.

1.

Answer key :

∆RAT ~ ∆TAC
∆CEU ~ ∆UET
2. Solve for x and y. ∆CEA ~ ∆AEF
7. Values Integration

As student, how do you budget your

money?
(Answer may vary)
Do you think by budgeting you were
able to equally divide your money?

Yes, Ma’am!

Imagine that the budgeting is the

altitude that is being drawn from a
larger triangle. From that budgeting you
were able to assess what should be
saved and used for expenses. And with
this we can be able to ensure that we
have a balance or equal distribution of
our money.
