This lesson plan teaches second grade students how to tell and write time from analog and digital clocks to the nearest five minutes using a.m. and p.m. Students will use the collaborative web tool Blooket to complete a timed assessment where they identify times on analog and digital clocks. They will also view an EdPuzzle video with examples and self-paced questions. The teacher aims to engage students and have them communicate by including a discussion question on Blooket. Students' understanding will be assessed through their work on the Blooket.

What is the student learning goal(s) for this lesson idea?

I can tell time from analog and digital clocks to the nearest five minutes using a.m. and p.m.

How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:

☐ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the
student and mostly practice based.

☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic
of learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The
teacher facilitates the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

☐ Problem-based (Real world problems) and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems
and completing projects to demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared
outside of the classroom. (Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the
school’s morning newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another
class, or publishing it via an outside source.)

Web 2.0 Tools for Communication and Collaboration

Students will utilize the Web 2.0 tool to learn about telling time to the nearest five minutes. I will
keep students engaged and focused on their learning goal by having them communicate and
collaborate with one another using a discussion question and Blooket. I will access their prior
knowledge as they start learning by beginning by asking students if they can tell the time at the
beginning of the lesson. In order to provide authentic real-world tasks to motivate my learners they
will be given a Blooket to complete where they attempt to tell time on analog and digital clocks, as
well as an EdPuzzle with examples. Student learning will be assessed through the Blooket that is
provided at the end of the lesson. I will conclude my lesson with an assessment.

Managing student learning:

The tool(s) for this lesson cause a shift in the behavior of students where they move from passive to
active social learners. It allows for this because there is a discussion section within the Padlet. This
section allows for students to work together and discuss their thoughts.

I will allow for time-on-task and shift from passive to active learning by giving a video that has self-
paced questions within the video, asking two questions for students to respond to about the video,
and a timed Blooket assessment.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Engagement: There is engagement because students are given ways to self-pace and collaborate
with one another while playing a game and watching a video.

Representation: Representation is shown by providing a video that shows students different ways to
look at a clock so that they can tell the time to the nearest five minutes the best way for them.

Expression: There are multiple means of expression by having students show their knowledge by
offering discussion posts and multiple-choice questions.

Reflective Practice:

I believe this tool will help students build understanding in a way they could not do with traditional
tools, because they are able to be self-paced with the way that this standard was set up. I look
forward to implementing the discussion section of the lesson. I think it will be interesting to see how
students interact with one another and how they answer the questions that were asked.
