Georgina was going to make her assignment in Arts. The
problem was that Georgina didn’t know much about making a
scrapbook. So, to solve her problem, she took some actions. First,
she searched in the Google about scrapbook making. Then, she
also watched in the You tube on how to make a simple scrapbook
from recycled materials. She asked also some ideas from her
mother who is a teacher. After accomplishing all of these, she
confidently made her scrapbook in Arts and was thankful to learn
something from her assignment.

Some informational text types are organized by problem

and solution. This text begins with the presentation of a problem
between individuals among groups, or an issue going on in the
world. This is followed by one or more possible solutions that are
explained.

Another informational text type is organized by cause and

effect. A cause-and-effect text explains reasons and results of
the phenomena or happenings, situations and trends. It makes
use of transition/signal words such as because, one reason why,
as a result, hence, therefore and thus.

There are some learners who are now better readers in

English. Why? Here are several reasons. First, the English teacher
inspires the learners to do their best because she prepares and
teaches the lessons very well. Second, all the other teachers speak
to the learners in English in all zones of the school. Another reason
is that the learners are exposed to many activities in which they
can practice speaking well like English Festival. They do
declamation, interpretative reading and poem recitation.

One of the serious problems since 2019 was the continuous

spreading of novel coronavirus in the different parts of the world.
That is why all leaders entire the nation has to take concrete steps
to address the pandemic. One solution to avoid the virus is to
wear facemask when going out and if having a flu and cough.
Another solution is to observe physical distancing when going out
in a crowd. Meanwhile, the medical front liners also advise
everyone to stay at home, observe hygiene and make necessary
disinfections if exposed to the crowd. There are some more ways
to help address the problem on health security, but maybe, the
main solution is that everyone must have discipline and
cooperate with IATF and DOH to fight CoViD-19.

Why do some children are distracted when they are studying

their lessons? For one reason, many children are distracted
nowadays because of playing gadgets like cellphone or computer.
They get bored doing their assignments and participate in class
activities. This results to score low in written and performance
tasks. Another cause of being distracted can be lack of sleep,
tiredness and sometimes illness which cause them not to focus
and concentrate their lessons. Other reason is the attention given
to them by their parents to guide their children in doing the tasks.

The CoViD-19 pandemic that hit the entire world causes
several problems. Because of pandemic, many business
establishments are forced to closed and many people became
unemployed. The pandemic also affects the world economy since
all funds were aligned to address the insufficient medical
supplies to treat CoViD-19 patients and also to give reliefs to
those who cannot work due to strict community quarantine.
Children also suffered because they cannot go to school to study
that is why they attend online classes for those who have gadgets
and internet connectivity. Those who cannot afford have their
modular distance learning using printed modules. There are also
a lot of front liners who had sacrificed their lives to serve people
in need.

Due to CoViD-19 pandemic, face-to-face teaching and

learning was suspended by President Rodrigo Duterte and this
was strictly implemented and followed by the Department of
Education. DepEd introduced some ways on how learners and
students can continue their studies even if they are at home.
Learners can have online classes and modular distance learning
using printed modules. However, there are some limitations. Not
all learners can attend online classes because of no gadget to
use and internet connectivity. On the other hand, learners can
do self-study but no interaction will be made with their teacher
but parents/homeschooling facilitator can assist them in
answering their modules. No matter how alike and different the
way learners can learn, what matters most is how effective
learning takes place during the pandemic.
1. What two subjects are compared in the paragraph?

2. What transition/signal words are used to show similarities?

differences?

3. In the paragraph, which are presented first, similarities or

differences?

A compare-and-contrast text type is one in which the

similarities and differences of two subjects-persons, places,
events or objects-are presented and organized logically.

In composing a compare-and-contrast paragraph:

1. choose the subjects (like objects or people) you want to

describe;
2. organize your subject’s similarities and differences using
a Venn diagram; and
3. use transitional words to show similarities (like, both,
similarly) and differences (but, while, however, on the

There are two famous spots in La Union: these are the

Surfing Capital of the North located in San Juan and the
Refreshing Blue Pool Icon of San Gabriel. These are similar in
many ways. Both are bodies of water where tourists love to
swim especially during summer. Tangadan Falls and San Juan
Surfing Beaches became popular because people from different
places and countries visit them. However, San Juan Surfing
Beaches have giant waves where surfers ride on a surfing
board, while in Tangadan, the water falls from the rocks where
the swimmers love to go to the catch basin to get a water
massage. You can reach the Surfing Capital of the North by
different kinds of vehicles and it is along the highway. On the
other hand, you can reach Tangadan Falls by riding a “habal-
habal” or a jeepney and then you walk and hike for some hours
but it is fun and challenging.

During this time of pandemic, the use of gadgets for online

and modular classes and work from home arrangements are
essential for us. The use of mobile phones and computer
laptops are both functional to answer activities given by our
teachers and to make reports assigned by our boss. The gadgets
can work through the rechargeable batteries or direct from
electric supply. They are handy and you can bring them to any
place. However, some of their differences lie in their size and
specifications. The size of the phone is smaller than the laptop.
The laptop is heavier than the phone. The phone has a small
storage capacity while laptop has bigger storage capacity.
Laptops has USB ports while mobile phones have one USB port
and it is detachable.

To avoid infection and contamination of CoViD-19, it is

important to observe proper hygiene. To make our hands
clean, there are two ways to do it. One is to wash our hands
and the other one is to use hand sanitizers or alcohol. Washing
hands and using hand sanitizers can protect us and kill the
virus. However, medical experts say that washing hands is
more effective to kill the virus. Washing hands with soap and
running water can wash out the germs. In using hand
sanitizers, there is small assurance that the germs in our
hands are removed. We can only use hands sanitizers or
alcohol if we are outside and there are no available washing
areas. Washing hands needs an amount of water to wash out
germs or dirt thoroughly and there are steps on how to do it.
In using an alcohol or hand sanitizers, just pour or spray a
small amount of the liquid and rub it for some seconds.

modules that they are going to answer at home with their
parents/guardians. Here are some ways on how you answer
your self-learning modules at home: First, read the content of
your modules. Second, answer the activities. If you don’t
understand, ask your parent/guardian or you can message
your teacher. Next, finish all the given activities in the module
