Content of the Report
The part of an internship report is categorized under the following ways.
1. INTRODUCTION
1.1. Background of internship: Overview of the Organization. It includes
a. Starting and ending date
b. Departments the internee assigned
c. Brief history/introduction of the organization
d. Mission of the organization
e. Competitors and any other important issues
f. Organizational Hierarchy chart
a. Number of employees
b. Main offices
c. Introduction of all the departments
d. Comments on the organizational structure
1.2. Objectives of internship
This part states clearly and briefly the objectives (purposes) of the internship report.
1.2.1. General objectives
The general objectives indicate the objectives of the internship
1.2.2. Specific objectives
The specific objectives imply those related to the topic (which is stated in the title of the internship) to be
analysed.
1.3. The significance of Internship
It indicates the possibility of usage or implementation of the internship program or possible contribution
for the student and for the organization.
2
2.1. Activities conducted
This part describes the implementation/major activities of internship conducted by the students.
It is expected that the activities are valid to their focus of study (study concentration). For
example, a student majoring in management should focus his/her activities within the
management sphere in the company. Here the student is expected to write the activities done by
him/her during the internship.
Evaluation on the result of the internship program is the assessment of the problem and solutions
used in solving for the problem when the student is conducting the internship program. If there is
no single problem found during the internship, the student does not need to state any problems;
nevertheless, he/she should support the strength and weakness points of the internship
object/spot based on the analysis result and comparative study towards the theories gained in
lectures/classes. This element includes:
2.2.1. Problems/challenges/constraints
Problems stated in this section are the obstacles met by the internship object/spot in trying to
achieve its goals or the potentials that have not been developed by the object/spot. For example
some of the problems during internship period can be:
Lack of feedback: Full-time employees are typically scheduled for performance evaluations.
These evaluations are particularly helpful as they provide insight into an employee’s
strengths, as well as what aspects of their role can be improved.
Unfamiliar office culture: It takes time to understand the organizational culture since it
varies from office to office. While some have a rigid structure, others are flexible and trying
to observe organizational structure during the first weeks of socializing poses a challenge.
There's not enough work: As surprising as it may sound to some people, this could pose
one of the top internship problems. You expect you’d be given loads of tasks, but there isn't
enough work assigned to you.
This section focuses on the strengths of practices conducted by the company/institution observed
by the internship students. The strengths are explained in a complete and detail way, and if it is
possible, equipped by photos and/or videos or films about the implementation technique of the
work practice held/observed by the students in the internship object. Next, these strengths are
3
compared with the theories acquired during the lectures/classes and explain their relevance with
the practices in the object of internship.
This part describes any practices performed by the company which is considered not effective
enough. It is advisable that the students provide photos, and/or videos/films about the practices.
It is related to the experiences gained during the internship program in the object/spot of
internship. It is expected that these experiences can support the students’ maturation and self-
development process.
Note: Students are expected to collect information from various sources such as interaction with
the organization’s personnel (managers, internship supervisor, colleagues etc.) and company
website, documents, brochures etc. but it is necessary to mention the sources of information in
report. Thus, evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of what was observed - Make judgments clearly
connected to observations made. Evaluation answers the question, “What is your opinion about what
you observed or experienced? Why?
Consider: In what ways this learning experience will serve you in your future?
Remember your report attempt to:
Analyze your own performance as a learner
Evaluate your gains in understanding and completing tasks
Verbalize how you feel about your learning
Make connections with other experiences, ideas
Demonstrate transfer of learning
Integrate the concepts taught in courses
3. CONCLUSION
In this section you are required to describe the organization according to your evaluation/assessment in
the light of critical theoretical backgrounds.
4. SUGGESTION/RECOMMENDATION
In this section you are required to suggest solutions for all the problems or discrepancies (you have
pointed out in the analysis) found in the organization.
