Lesson Plan
Lesson Plan
1) Science - Students will learn about the different fish species, their habitats, and
the importance of sustainable fishing practices. This connects to TLE as it provides
background knowledge for understanding fishery arts and its branches/fields.
2) Math - Students will explore the mathematical concepts involved in fishery arts,
such as measuring fish length, calculating fish populations, and determining fishing
quotas. This connects to TLE as it emphasizes the practical application of
mathematics in the field of fisheries.
3) Social Studies - Students will examine the socio-economic impact of fishery arts
on communities, including the role of fisherfolk in the local economy and the cultural
significance of fishing traditions. This connects to TLE as it helps students
understand the broader context in which fishery arts operate.
ENGAGE:
Idea 1: Divide the class into groups and assign each group a specific fish species.
Ask them to research and prepare a short role-play where they act as fisherfolk
catching and selling their assigned fish species. This activity will spark their interest
in fishery arts and its branches/fields.
Idea 2: Conduct a fish market simulation in the classroom. Provide students with
play money and various fish species (cards or pictures) with different prices.
Students will take turns buying and selling fish, practicing negotiation skills and
understanding the value of different fish species.
EXPLORE:
Significance: Students will explore the internal structures and adaptations of fish
through hands-on dissection. This activity allows them to observe the anatomical
features that make fish suitable for different fishing techniques.
Instructions:
2) Provide each group with a fish specimen and the necessary tools.
3) Guide the students through the dissection process, highlighting key structures and
adaptations.
4) Discuss the different fishing techniques that target specific fish structures.
Rubric:
Assessment Questions:
2) What fishing technique would be most effective for catching a fish with a
streamlined body shape?
Materials: Fish tanks or containers, fish food, water testing kits, fish species
information
Significance: Students will simulate the process of fish farming, learning about the
different aspects involved in raising fish for commercial purposes. This activity
introduces them to the branch of fishery arts that focuses on aquaculture.
Instructions:
1) Divide the class into small groups and provide each group with a fish tank or
container.
3) Instruct the students to research the optimal conditions and requirements for their
assigned fish species.
4) Have the students set up their fish tanks, monitor water quality, and feed the fish
regularly.
5) Encourage them to record observations and measure the growth of their fish over
time.
Rubric:
Assessment Questions:
1) What factors should be considered when selecting fish species for aquaculture?
2) How does water quality affect the growth and health of farmed fish?
- The teacher will explain the different branches/fields of fishery arts, such as
commercial fishing, aquaculture, fish processing, and fishery resource management.
The teacher will provide examples and discuss the importance of each branch in the
fishing industry. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage in
class discussion.
ELABORATE:
Students will work in groups to complete these tasks, applying their knowledge of
fishery arts and its branches/fields to real-life scenarios. They will collaborate,
research, and present their final products to the class.
EVALUATE:
Question 1: Explain the importance of sustainable fishing practices and their impact
on fish populations and ecosystems.
Question 2: Compare and contrast the different branches of fishery arts, highlighting
their unique contributions to the fishing industry.
Question 3: Discuss the challenges and opportunities in the field of fishery arts,
considering factors such as climate change, technological advancements, and socio-
economic factors.
Assignment:
Guiding Overview: Students will visit a local fishery or fish farm and write a
reflection on their experience, focusing on the different branches/fields of fishery arts
they observed.
Assessment Question: Describe one branch/field of fishery arts you learned about
during the field trip and explain its importance in the fishing industry.
Guiding Overview: Students will research a specific branch/field of fishery arts and
create a multimedia presentation or poster summarizing their findings.
Note: The rubrics, assessment questions, and assignment details can be further
customized based on the specific learning competencies and curriculum guidelines
provided by the DepEd Philippines K to 12 Curriculum Guide.
