ASSIGNMENT # 2 SCIENTIFIC METHOD

NAME: (FN, GN): _____Duclan Kyle James B.__________ DATE: _9/8/2022

SCHEDULE: _____________4:10-6:10_________________________

INSTRUCTION: RESEARCH THE FOLLOWING

Scientific Method --- The process in the scientific method involves making conjectures
(hypothetical explanations), deriving predictions from the hypotheses as logical consequences,
and then carrying out experiments or empirical observations based on those predictions.

Sir Francis Bacon --- Francis Bacon, 1st Viscount St Alban, PC, also known as Lord Verulam, was an
English philosopher and statesman who served as Attorney General and as Lord Chancellor of
England. His works are seen as contributing to the scientific method and remained influential
through the later stages of the scientific revolution

STEPS

1. Observation and Statement of the problem --- A problem statement is an explanation in

research that describes the issue that is in need of study.

2. Formulation of hypothesis --- Formulating a Hypothesis. A hypothesis can be formulated in two

ways: deductive and inductive hypothesis building.

3. Gathering of data and facts --- Data collection is the process of gathering and measuring
information on variables of interest

** Data --- In computing, data is information that has been translated into a form that is
efficient for movement or processing.
Data comes in two types:
** Quantitative- Quantity or amount is a property that can exist as a multitude or magnitude, which
illustrate discontinuity and continuity.
** Qualitative- Qualitative research relies on data obtained by the researcher from first-hand
observation, interviews, questionnaires.

** Facts ---true

4. Recording and analyzing the data --- The general purpose of data recording is to set in writing
and assure the preservation of the data collected in the course of field or laboratory
studies.

** Data table --- DataTables is a powerful jQuery plugin for creating table listings and adding
interactions to them.
** Graph --- In mathematics, the graph of a function f is the set of ordered pairs.

5. Drawing of conclusion or Generalization --- Generalization is reasoning from detailed facts to

general principles. Conclusion is a position or opinion or judgment reached after
consideration.

** Conclusion -- A conclusion is a statement based on experimental measurements and

observations. -
** Generalization ---A generalization is a form of abstraction whereby common properties of specific
instances are formulated as general concepts or claims.
** Theory --- In everyday use, the word "theory" often means an untested hunch, or a guess
without supporting evidence.
** Law --- aws or laws of science are statements, based on repeated experiments or observations

6. Communicate Your Results --- Scientists often find solutions to problems by knowing the results
of other scientists' experiments.

Variables in an experiment (Definitions and Examples)

1. Independent variable - In an experiment, the independent variable is the variable that is varied
or manipulated by the researcher.

example: Independent and dependent variables You design a study to test whether changes in
room temperature have an effect on math test scores. Your independent variable is the
temperature of the room.

2. Dependent variable- The dependent variable is the variable that is being measured or tested
in an experiment.

example: The dependent variable is the variable that is being measured or tested in an
experiment. 1 For example, in a study looking at how tutoring impacts test scores, the
dependent variable would be the participants' test scores since that is what is being
measured.

3. Constant variables - a variable that does not change.

example: constant variable is a variable that does not change. For example, in an experiment to
test the effect of different lights on plants
