PA Pressure

Pressure in liquids increases with depth due to the weight of liquid above. Hydrostatic pressure depends on density, gravity, and height according to the formula P=ρgh, where P is pressure, ρ is density, g is gravity, and h is height or depth. The student conducted an experiment using a plastic bottle with three holes at different heights to observe the effect of height on liquid pressure. The results showed that the lowest hole had the fastest and furthest spurting water, due to greater pressure from the increased height of liquid above. Changing other variables like bottle shape did not affect pressure, which depends only on density, gravity, and height.

PRESSURE MODUL

Name: Clairine Frederica Wijayarso Class/no: 10A/4

Make a Lab. Report as sequence below, replace the blank with your answer with blue bold (biru tua)
color!
A. Goal (5 points): To see the effect of height/depth towards the pressure of the liquid
B. Theory (8 points):
Write down the answer of the blanks to complete your lab report.
Pressure in a liquid (increase/decrease) increases with depth because the further down you go, the
greater the weight of liquid above.
Hydrostatic pressure depends on density, gravity and height.
Formula used: P= ρ x g x h
Symbol of formula and SI unit:
- Symbol:
- P = pressure (Pa)
- ρ = density (kg/m^3)
- g = gravity (m/s^2)
- h = depth/height (m)
C. Materials (5 points):
- Plastic bottle
- solder
- Water
- Marker

D. Procedure:
1. Gather all the materials needed.
2. Fill the bottle with water up to almost full and put on the lid of the bottle again.
3. Make three small holes on the plastic bottle in different position as the picture below.
4. Name the highest point A, middle B and the lowest C.
5. Now, open the lid and observe what happen.
E. Discussion (12 points):
1. In which hole the water spurts out fastest? Hole C (the lowest point)
2. In which hole the water spurts out furthest? Hole C (the lowest point)
3. How about the liquid pressure in the different points? Different points have different pressure Why is
that so? Each of them has different height/depth, the lower the point is, the greater the pressure.
4. How if we have the holes at the same level of height, is the water comes out equally fast and
spurts equally far from each hole? Yes
Why? Because, when the holes are at the same level of height, it has the same pressure, as the gravity of
the earth will be the same (9.8 m/s^2), and the density of the liquid will also stay the same (because it is
the same liquid).
5. How if we change the bottle width or shape, is there any changes in the liquid pressure?
No, because the pressure of the liquid will only be affected by the height, not the shape nor the width of
the container. So, when the shape and width changes, but the height stays the same, the pressure will
also stay the same.
6. How the density of the liquid change the pressure?
Since pressure is measured by multiplying the density, gravity, and height, the pressure of the liquid will of
course change when the density of the liquid changes.
7. The bottle has three holes, one higher than the other two. Fill it with water and put on the lid.
If the two holes are covered, what happens to the water coming out of the lowest hole?

What do you observe?

The water still spurts out the same distance and speed as before.
Explain why this happens.
This happens because thing that controls the distance and of the water to spurts out is the pressure. And
since the density, gravity, and depth of the hole is the same, the pressure will be the same, so the
distance and speed of the spurting water will also be the same. The pressure will stay the same whether if
the two other holes are opened or closed.
F. Conclusion (10 points):
Hydrostatic Pressure depends on : density, acceleration of gravity, and height (depth). The greater the
density, height and acceleration of gravity, the greater the pressure.

G. One of your best picture doing the experiment with your face appear (5 points)
