Reflection Interview Questions
Reflection Interview Questions
1. What skill have you developed the most so My confidence and ability to try things out and get
far since beginning this project? stuck into rehearsals without worrying about getting
things ‘wrong’. I did this through different rehearsal
techniques throughout the process, even if they felt
silly to just do them anyway because I would always
learn something from them in terms of my character.
2. What has been the most challenging element I think that research has been tricky this year, since it
of the play for you so far? (Character or is a brand-new play there isn’t much information
production role) about the play, characters, previous performances etc
therefore at the start of doing my research I was
mainly basing it off what Titas had told us about our
characters.
3. How have you/will you overcome that? So far, I have been picking a part some of my lines
and trying to figure out why somebody might say/
behave in such a way and then researching into that,
e.g when Cora says how her memories are jumbled
and how time does not feel real, I did research into
why that could be (depersonalization/derealisation). I
want to make more decisions about my character that
I think and doing research based off this as well as
continuing different rehearsal techniques which
help find out a lot of things about our characters.
4. What are currently finding difficult? I’m currently finding building up the energy and
performance levels difficult since not everybody is
trying to, because we’re all stressed and tired and
worried about the show.
5. How do you intend to overcome this? I think that when we do a full run with lights, sound,
and costume we will all automatically increase our
energy levels however me personally I am going to
try and pretend that each rehearsal is show night and
that every time we do a run to imagine it as the real
thing. Also, to keep being positive and organised
with my personal responsibilities will help me
because it will allow me to not have distractions
when rehearsing which will allow me to put all of my
focus on the rehearsal.
6. What are you most proud of currently? I’m proud of how much I have developed my
character and the changes I have made because I
think they’re for the better. For example, I have
changed my character from quite insecure to fed up
and irritated by what everybody is saying and doing.
The reason why I am proud of this is because I
incorporated the research I have done for Cora and
the play in general, into my rehearsals and I always
find that when I have a reasoning behind a character
and the way they behave instantly makes me enjoy
playing them/ rehearsing more and I think makes it
more effective.
7. Name one choice you have made about your I think that a choice I made early into this project is
characterisation that you are the most pleased still one of my favourites which is the fact she acts
with and has helped you the most? softly towards Sam however not at all to anybody
else. I play her irritated by everyone, banter with
Lewis (while still getting irritated by her) however I
change my tone of voice completely each time I talk
to Sam. I liked the idea that they feel completely
comfortable with each other and nobody else and I
wanted to show this through the softness in which
Cora treats Sam, in the way she looks, touches, and
speaks to Sam. This has helped me when developing
the base of each of the scenes and interactions
8. What has been your favourite aspect of doing I have enjoyed the fact that the play is contemporary
the play so far? and being able to experiment and play around with
the naturalistic elements since last year we did
Antigone which was interesting however I am
enjoying the dialogue which is more accurate to how
I actually speak as well as the way the characters
interact is a lot more natural, rather than one
character having a monologue then the next, instead
the dialogue is the characters constantly cutting each
other off which has been really fun but challenging in
rehearsals trying to build up this energy level
9. If you were challenged to re-start the play and Currently, I play Cora as quite a strong-minded
interpret your character completely differently, person, who cares a lot about and stands up for what
what would you do and why? she believes in. I would love to play her as a really
shy and timid character and lean into the fact she
isn’t confident and has been through some tough
things in her life; I think that the argument with Alex
would be a completely different atmosphere if I
played her like that and I think that this would be
strange but fascinating to see how the other
characters would react.
10. If you had the opportunity to switch roles I would like to switch roles with Alex because I
with somebody, who would you it be with and would like to play someone with that much control
why? over the other characters, I think that playing
someone as mean and manipulative would be
exciting and very different to the character I play
right now; I love the way Alex is confident, loud and
trying to control the situation but only because of
their insecurities, I think this would be a really
interesting thing to research into and fun aspect of
the character to play around with.
