Hardware: The physical components of a computer system


Software- Software and Programs are intangible meaning, that we can't hold them physically
Peopleware-They refer to actual people with involvements in the development and improvements of the hardware and
the software.
Application software- a type of computer program that performs a specific function for end-users
 Word processing Software- Used to create letters and word sheets
 Spreadsheet Software-Used to compute number intensive problems
 Database Software- Used to store and manage data
 Communication Software- Allows connected computers to communicate to each other
 Presentation Software-Used to create multimedia stacks of cards/slides
 Internet Browsers-Allows one to surf the web and read emails
 Email Programs-Used to send and receive emails
 Entertainment Software-Supports a hobby or provides a form of amusement
 Graphics software -apps and programs that graphic designers use to create, edit, and manipulate digital images
System software-System software is a type of software that manages and controls the operations of the computer such
as the hardware including the CPU and other software on a computer system
-Utility Software-is system software designed to help analyze, configure, optimize or maintain a computer. Examples of
utility software includes firewall utilities and antivirus applications
-Operating System-It manages the computer's memory and processes, as well as all of its software and hardware. It also
allows you to communicate with the computer ex. Windows, Android etc
-Device driver-manages hardware components or peripherals attached to a computer and enables them to function with
the computer smoothly ex. Printer driver, mouse driver etc
-Firmware-is a form of microcode or program embedded into hardware devices(chipset) to help them operate effectively
etc BIOS, processors of appliances etc
• PowerPoint is used to present data or talking points in a slide show format. Presentations are a great way to summarize
information, a project report, learnings from a research study, and much more. Microsoft PowerPoint helps you to create
presentations.
• Excel is used to manage and organize data. You can capture data, record information over time, and analyze the data by
creating charts and graphs using that data.
• Microsoft Word is used to create detailed reports, brief summaries, proposals, and pretty much anything that requires
a lot of text. This is because it is a word processor.
• File Menu: The File tab will bring you into the Backstage View where you manage your files and the data about them
• Ribbon/toolbar: An area across the top of the screen that makes almost all the capabilities of Word
• Tabs/menubar: An area on the Ribbon that contains buttons that are organized in groups.
• Title Bar: A horizontal bar at the top of an active document that displays the name of the document
• Quick Access Toolbar: is a collection of shortcuts to the commands, that you use frequently.
• Command Groups: A group of buttons on a tab that are exposed and easily accessible.
• Status Bar: A horizontal bar at the bottom of an active window that gives details about the document.
• View Toolbar: A toolbar that enables, adjusts, and displays different views of a document.
• Zoom: Magnifies or reduces the contents in the document window.
• Text/document area: lets you put and type text anywhere in your file
• formula bar is an input bar, below the ribbon. It shows the content of the active cell, and you can also use it to enter a
formula in a cell.
• Name box displays the location, or name, of a selected cell
• Cell is an intersection of a column and row.
• Worksheet is made up of individual cells which can contain a value, a formula, or text.
shortcut keys: ctrl+C=copy, ctrl+V=paste, ctrl+X=cut, ctrl+P=print, ctrl+S=save, F12-=save as
