CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
Operations began in 1998 with services in four branches. Currently, Omo Bank operates in 19
districts and has 240 branches. On June 21, 2022, Omo Bank received a license to operate
throughout the country after meeting the minimum requirements for converting a microfinance
institution into a bank set by the National Bank of Ethiopia with registration number LLB/TM
/030/2022.
Currently, Omo bank is in the process of expanding its services to the entire country and
expanding its previous activities in the SNNPR, Southwest Ethiopia and Sideman regions. The
bank has already begun this expansion by opening branches in Addis Ababa and plans to open
additional branches across the country.
As of July 7, 2022, the facility employs a total of 6,320 people. Of these, 177 employees work at
the headquarters, 500 in the district offices, 3,293 in the branches and 2,350 as customer service
managers. It should be noted that 1,912 of the employees are women.
The organizational structure of the bank includes the general assembly, board of directors, senior
officials, districts and branches. The bank's total capital has reached more than 3. As of the
reporting period ending June 30, 2022, total assets amounted to ETB1 billion and total assets
amounted to ETB12 billion.
The bank has total assets of over ETB12 billion and total capital of ETB3.06 billion. As of the
reporting period ending March 31, 2023, our bank served approximately 5.7 million active
savings customers with a total of ETB55.7 billion in savings and a net savings of ETB5.7 billion.
The increase followed the NBE's new banking proclamation, which allowed the establishment of
interest-free banks and the conversion of MFIs into banks. Additionally, it is worth noting that
the Ethiopian government recently deregulated the banking sector to allow foreign investors to
enter the market
Providing modern, inclusive banking services to all segments of the society through its
committed staff and efficient and enhanced delivery channels; thereby greatly contributing to the
society’s socio-economic transformation

Values
played a key role and could be easily captured in the report while secondary data was required
for the structured preparation of the report. I have developed a methodology or data collection
method as follows:
Primary data sources: The main resources are inspections in various offices, interviews
with office staff and organized and planned analysis.
Secondary data sources: Brochures, bank website etc. these are secondary data sources.
There was an in-depth and detailed examination of existing files, practical case
explanations, and an observation interview with the employee to determine the
implementation process as well as the control and monitoring of the banking system.
It must be fully equipped with all the necessary materials technologically improved to
facilitate its operation.
The organization must provide quality services to its customers to be a good competitor
in the market.
An organization's evaluation system must be based on efficiency and effectiveness,
which means that the way resources are used, must be wise and manageable.
To solve the problem of lack of data about the organization's past, I collect some
information from the headquarters and try to document it with the help of my manager.
For the question about the employees and their work, I suggest that in this organization
there is a sector that manages the employees and their work.
The bank provides regular training to its employees to increase their efficiency in
carrying out their duties.
A bank employee must work hard to achieve the vision of the organization and others.
I have tried to create good relationship with staff members, then they try to give me
useful information and everything that I wanted and they support me to solve the stated
problem.
CHAPTER TWO
I have performed my activities in the organization with full communication with manager and all
staff employees. I try to work major activities of work in organization like: how to deposit
money, how to withdraw money, how to transfer money, how to check balance of my operation,
how to control finance in the bank, how to audit etc.
During my internship at, I took on certain responsibilities and tasks within the organization.
I am able to provide a general framework for assessing the intern's performance in a business
context.
Professionalism: One of the key aspects when evaluating an intern's work is their level
of professionalism. These include factors such as punctuality, dress code, attitude and
communication skills. Did you show up on time, dress appropriately for work, maintain a
positive attitude, and communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors?
Quality of work: Another important factor is the quality of the work carried out during
the internship. Did you complete the tasks completely and efficiently? Have you
demonstrated a good understanding of business principles and applied them effectively in
your work? Have you shown initiative and gone beyond your assigned tasks to add value
to the organization?
Learning: An internship is a learning experience, so it is important to assess your ability
to learn and develop while working at Omo Bank. Have you asked questions and sought
feedback to improve your performance? Have you taken any training and used it to
improve your skills? Have you shown a willingness to learn from your mistakes?
Teamwork: Teamwork is essential in business management. It is important to evaluate
your ability to work with your colleagues and contribute to the team's success. Have you
communicated effectively with your team members? Did you respect and value the
contributions of others? Have you demonstrated a willingness to help when needed and
take on additional responsibility when needed?
Initiative: Finally, it is important to evaluate your ability to take initiative and be
proactive in your work. Have you identified opportunities to improve processes or
procedures and taken steps to implement the changes? Have you suggested new ideas or
solutions to problems? Have you demonstrated a strong work ethic and desire to succeed?
Overall, your performance as a Business Management Trainee at Omo Bank will depend on a
combination of these factors. By evaluating your performance in each of these areas, you can
identify your strengths and areas for improvement and take steps to improve your skills and
knowledge.
Overall, this convenient connection when I am present and working at work is also important.
CHAPTER THREE
3.1 Summary
The internship is a training project that integrates knowledge acquired in the classroom and
practical professional experience in the industrial, commercial or government sector. It offers
students the opportunity to put academic theories and principles into practice, test their
professional interests and develop skills and abilities through carefully planned and monitored
relevant programs for their chosen profession. I have acquired general knowledge of the banking
sector in a short period of time. I had the opportunity to learn more about banking environment
and how the bank works.
Overall, the main goal of this practical training was to find out how the theoretical insights are
applied in practice and how well the theories are implemented in this bank. I work full time in
this industry. The report covers the historical context, structure and current existence of the
organization, including current performance, goals, mission, vision and values. Almost all minor
details of banking matters can be covered in this section. The cooperation of the staff made it
easier for me to learn various activities in a very short time.
3.2 Conclusion
Everyone learns a lot in classrooms and conferences, but that space will be filled when these
classrooms and conferences are implemented. It is a different experience that everyone in the
world needs. As planned, I had a wonderful internship at one of Omo Bank's growing private
companies. In fact, practical experience is now much more necessary than basic theoretical
studies. As part of internship, I spent around two months in the company. The training gave me
the opportunity to expand my knowledge and skills in a practical working environment. This
back training is very important for every student in his life.
Especially today, when every company first trains its new employees for six to three months and
then grants them permanent employment, a significant part of their length of service can be
assessed according to this practice. In particular, the faculty and professors have allowed
students to carry out the internship as they wish, but this must be consistent with their
specialization and field of study. In the future, the department and each department should
consider internships in listed and multinational companies that will help students acquire
knowledge and improve their skills and knowledge. Even during the internship period, the
student advisor should visit a student internship organization that supports the students and
provides them with appropriate support. Internships will continue in the future to further develop
faculty students
3.3 Recommendations
An internship at banks was an interesting experience. The employees are very cooperative and
with their help the trainee was able to familiarize himself with the modern banking system. I
suggest that such an internship program for management students should be very inclusive so
that students gain knowledge about the practice. Based on the above observations, knowledge
and tasks performed, I would like to present some suggestions that will allow the bank to
compete more effectively with other banks.
Today there are many banks in Ethiopia. The bank must therefore be competent enough
to compete with them.
To create awareness about its services, the bank should use more effective advertising
media like advertising on FM, television and other social media etc.
Today is the age of modern technology. It therefore needs to implement new technologies
quickly compared to its competitors.
Expansion into new markets – The bank should expand into international markets to
increase its customer base.
Greater emphasis on risk management – The bank should invest in training to increase its
knowledge and experience in risk management.
Build strategic partnerships – The bank should form strategic partnerships with other
organizations to expand its reach and customer base.
It was necessary to hire new employees to reduce the workload in the organization.
The organization should have created awareness in the society to increase the number of
customers and create saving habits in the society.
It would be better if the government purchased an official office car for each AB branch.
To gain more public trust, the company had to improve its customer support system
compared to what its competitors were doing.
To attract more qualified employees, the evaluation system should be based on the level
and performance of employees.
Invest in technology – The bank should invest in the latest technological solutions to
improve its services. In this way, the bank can better serve its customers and remain
competitive in the market.
