A Detailed Lesson Plan in Practical Research 1

This lesson plan introduces students to research through defining it, outlining the basic steps, and emphasizing its significance. The plan includes introductory activities to engage students, a presentation on defining and types of research, and an interactive group activity where students learn about the main parts of a research paper by discussing different topics with designated "sages". The plan aims to build students' foundational knowledge of research and involves assessment of their learning.

A Detailed Lesson Plan in Practical Research 1

Prepared By: Alexandra Shaine Dinglasan & Cyrein Chavez

I. Objectives
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
1. Define research and its purpose.
2. Understand the significance of research in various fields.
3. Identify and describe the basic steps involved in conducting research.
4. Gain primary skills in writing a research.
II. Subject Matter
Introduction to Research
This lesson aims to introduce students to the field of research. Starting by
teaching the meaning, definition, characteristics and types of a research. This
course will build the primary knowledge base for the writing and publicizing a
research paper.

III. Materials
 Book: Practical Research 1 – Unit 1 pg. 2-77
Reference: Cristobal, A. & Cristobal M. (2017) Practical Research 1. C&E
Publishing House Inc. 829 Edsa South Triangle Quezon City.
 Visual Aid: A PowerPoint presentation.
 Projector
 25 different tip-colored sticks (for the group activity)
 25 copies of Introduction to Research Summary Hand-outs

IV. Activities
A. Introductory Activity
 Greet the students and check the attendance list.
 Give ice-breaker activity to ease off students.
 Pre-introduce the main topic of the lesson.
 Engage students with a brief story or real-life scenario where
research played a crucial role.
 Facilitate a mini-class discussion to gather students' ideas about
what they perceive research to be.
 Give the hand-outs to the students as a guide for the discussion and
activities.

B. Lesson Proper
 Presenting the definition of research – through the use of the power
point presentation, explain to students into simpler terms.
 Discuss different types of research (qualitative, quantitative,
experimental, etc.) and providing examples for each.
 Quick Class Drill: Give different research titles and ask the class to
identify the type of research.
 Present the significance of research in different fields (e.g., science,
technology, and psychology, healthcare) by showing real-world
examples where research has made a substantial impact (e.g.,
medical breakthroughs).
 Ask students to brainstorm and share scenarios where they have
encountered research in their everyday lives.
[Quick 10 minutes Break for the class]

 Discuss the basic steps involved in conducting research: (By using a

simple illustration that will summarize the steps)
1. Identify the research problem.
2. Review of existing literature.
3. Determine the research methodology.
4. Data collection and analysis.
5. Draw conclusions and result discussion.
 Open a short forum for questions to ensure comprehension of the
class.

C. Class Activity
- This part involves the application of cooperative learning strategy in
class. It aims to foster interactive learning amongst students,
encouraging them to engage in active participation and discussion as a
support for comprehending the research lesson.

Grouping Technique: Color Coding

 Through the use of the tip-colored sticks, the students will pick one
stick from the case, it will reveal their chosen colors. The color will
serve as the name of the group and the students will be tasked to
find their co-members by looking picked has the same color as
theirs.

Main activity: Circle of the Sage

 Instruction - Each team will be given a topic based on their color:

1. Red - Introduction
2. Blue - Review of Related Literature
3. Green - Methodology.
4. Violet - Data Analysis
5. Pink - Conclusion
 The class will be divided into 5 teams. A student will be marked as
a (Sage), its main job is to explain the part of research assigned to
them. Then they stand up and spread out in the room and the rest
of the students surround the sage, and no two members of the
same group surround the same sage. Then the sage states
whatever they know about the topic and the students can ask
questions and write it down.
 After that, the students return to their teams, and one by one they
explain what they have learned, as each student learned from a
different sage and they compare their notes. If there exists any
sort of disagreement, they stood up as a team, and then it is
resolved.
 After the discussion, each team will present their findings in the
order of 1-5. The teacher will correct or acknowledge the findings.
 After the activity, a connected summary of Group 1-5 Findings will
be highlighted by the teacher and recap the main parts of a
research paper.

V. Assessment
How you will measure students’ learning. This could be a formal
assessment or something simple like an exit ticket.
VI. Differentiation
Describe how you will vary the level of difficulty for students in all levels,
including enrichment for early finishers.
VII. Assignment
