Project #3 Hotel System Network

The document outlines requirements for designing and implementing a network for a smart hotel called Northern Smart Hotel. The hotel has four floors across two branches located 5km apart. Each floor and department will be on its own VLAN. Routers will connect each floor and use OSPF routing. Switches will be placed on each floor to provide connectivity. Wireless access will be provided. Devices will obtain IP addresses via DHCP from routers. Connectivity between all devices must be established and SSH configured for remote access. Port security will restrict a test PC's access. The network design must satisfy requirements and be tested to verify functionality.

Hotel System Network Design (Project #3)

Project #3 Case Study and Requirements

Description

As networking project designer and administrator, you are required to design and implement
Smart Modern Hotel network called Norther Smart Hotel. The hotel has four floors; in the first
floor there three departments (Reception, store and Logistics), in the second floor there are three
departments (Finance, HR and Sales/Marketing), while the third floor host the IT and Admin, the
fourth security and maintenance respectively. The Hotel operates in two branches located 5 km
apart within the same Town, Each branch is also expected to have a Guest/ houses for customers
or visitors.

Therefore, the following are part of the considerations during the design and implementation;

Requirements

 There should be four routers connecting each floor (all placed in the server room in IT
department).

 All routers should be connected to each other using serial DCE cable.

 Each floor is expected to have one switch (placed in the respective floor).

 Each floor is expected to have WIFI networks connected to laptops and phones.

 Each department is expected to have a printer.

 Each department is expected to be in different VLAN.

 Use OSPF as the routing protocol to advertise routes.

 All devices in the network are expected to obtain IP address dynamically with their respective
router configured as the DHCP server.

 All the devices in the network are expected to communicate with each other.

 Configure SSH in all the routers for remote login.

 In IT department, add PC called Test-PC to port fa0/1 and use it to test remote login.
 Configure port security to IT-dept switch to allow only Test-PC to access port fa0/1 (use sticky
method to obtain mac-address with violation mode of shutdown.)

Expectations: in order to satisfy the user requirements and the following Technologies need
to be implemented and verifications will be done using different test cases during final
presentation of the project.

 Creating a network topology using Cisco Packet Tracer.

 Hierarchical Network Design.

 Connecting Networking devices with Correct cabling.

 Creating VLANs and assigning ports VLAN numbers.

 Subnetting and IP Addressing.

 Configuring Inter-VLAN Routing (Router on a stick).

 Configuring DHCP Server (Router as the DHCP Server).

 Configuring SSH for secure Remote access.

 Configuring switchport security or Port-Security on the switches.

 Configuring WLAN or wireless network (Cisco Access Point).

 Host Device Configurations.

 Test and Verifying Network Communication.

Remark: Use the given IP address 192.168.0.0/24 for the interior LANSs of each
campus/facilities (subnets) and 10.10.10.0/30,10.10.10.4/30 and 10.10.10.8/30, 10.10.10.12/30 will
be for the other interconnecting Networks (routers).

Finally, the network topology should satisfy the user requirements above and everything should
be verified, tested and working fine.
