ACTIVITY 2
Students get knowledge and skills in health and physical education that will help them to live
a physically active and healthy lifestyle for the rest of their lives, not only in school. A well-rounded
educational program must include health and physical education.
Physical Education is a learning process that focuses on knowledge, attitudes and behaviors
that are imperative for students to embrace a lifestyle of health and fitness. Through these
processes, students learn how to achieve daily physical activity and personalized levels of fitness,
develop physical skills and achieve knowledge for living a healthy life.
Health education imparted in schools develops positive attitude and social skills necessary for
achieving optimum level of well being. It is believed that healthier students are better learners and
poor health effects adversely on learning and achievement of school students.Healthy students are
more likely to attend school and are better able to focus in class, which ultimately leads to higher
test scores and overall higher classroom achievement.
An individual’s physical and mental well-being is the concern of two similar areas of
education: health education and physical education. Both deal with habits of exercise, sleep, rest,
and recreation. Since physical well-being is only one aspect of a person’s overall health, physical
education is often thought of as a part of health education.

This activity called Force Analogy in which you need to think an object or anything that could be
related on health and physical education. Your answer must supported with illustration.
Health - Badminton makes your heart muscle strengthens. It also improves the blood flow through our
veins and pumps the heart up. It decreases the cholesterol level and reduces the risk of heart attacks or
strokes. This also unclogs the blocked walls of the heart and increases the blood flow.
Physical - While you are lunging, diving, running, getting your heart pumping, playing a game of
badminton can help you burn around 450 calories an hour. The varied movements provide a powerful
cardio workout by engaging the entire body, including the hamstrings, quads, calves and your core.

The process of cooperative learning involves students working together in small groups on a
structured activity. The members of the groups learn to work as a team to accomplish a specific goal, to
solve a problem, to complete a project, or to develop a product.
Harrison & Blackmore (1992) assert that cooperative learning teaching strategy is a strategy that
utilised learning in groups who are learners are assigned a learning task or project to complete as a team.
The themes are heterogeneous and are evaluated both individually and as a group. Holton (1998)
postulates that there are three common cooperative learning structures utilised in the cooperative
teaching strategy. This include the pairs check, jigsaw, and group activities.
Kagan (1990) states that cooperative learning reflects on how well the theme functions and how
to function even better through interpersonal and small group skills like communication, trust,
leadership, decision making and conflict resolution. Therefore, operative learning requires the
contribution of each of the group members in order to achieve goals.
2. Make a teaching method or strategy for PE and HEALTH class that is composed of heterogeneous class.
Tan (1997) view tasks sheets as an important aspect in the teaching of physical and health
education since they make students to practice task and keep a record of learning activities. Metzler
(1990) points out that task sheets are useful for pre-class what as well as during class activities for
each student can be given a task sheet and the list of activities. Students are then assessed by
partners or the teacher. According to Lamps (2008) past teaching has an advantage in empowering
students to assess each other thereby encouraging students to learn from other strengths and
weaknesses. Therefore, task teaching is a strategy that instils cooperation among students.Task
teaching is sometimes called station teaching. Station teaching is a strategy in which two or more
tasks are practised at the same time. Each task is allocated an area and students rotate from one
station to another.
