Transistor Wien Bridge Oscillator Circuit

Using Transistor Simulation Using Multisim

1. Introduction:
The Wien Bridge Oscillator is a type of electronic oscillator that generates sinusoidal waves. It
employs an RC network and an operational amplifier to produce a stable sinusoidal output.
This report outlines the design principles and simulation results of a Wien Bridge Oscillator
using MultiSim 14.3 simulation software.

2. Theory of Operation:
The Wien Bridge Oscillator operates based on the principle of positive feedback. It consists of
a feedback network (typically an RC bridge) and an operational amplifier. The feedback
network generates an output signal that is in phase with the input signal, thus sustaining
oscillations.
The key components of the Wien Bridge Oscillator are:
• Operational Amplifier: Acts as the amplifier stage.
• Feedback Network: Typically a combination of resistors and capacitors arranged in a
bridge configuration.
• Frequency-Determining Components: Capacitors and resistors that set the frequency of
oscillation.

3. Design Procedure:
To design a Wien Bridge Oscillator, the following steps are typically followed:
1. Choose the desired frequency of oscillation.
2. Determine the values of the resistors and capacitors in the feedback network based on
the desired frequency.
3. Select an operational amplifier with suitable characteristics (e.g., high gain, wide
bandwidth).
4. Construct the oscillator circuit according to the chosen configuration.

4. Simulation Setup:
In MultiSim 14.3, the Wien Bridge Oscillator circuit can be simulated by assembling the
components in the schematic editor. The simulation setup includes:
• Operational Amplifier: Choose a suitable model with the desired characteristics.
• Resistors and Capacitors: Set their values according to the design specifications.
• Power Supplies: Provide appropriate voltage supplies for the operational amplifier.
• AC Analysis: Perform AC analysis to observe the frequency response and verify
oscillation.

8. Discussion:
The simulation results confirm the functionality of the Wien Bridge Oscillator and validate its
design. Any discrepancies between simulated and expected values should be investigated and
resolved. Factors such as component tolerances, amplifier characteristics, and parasitic effects
may influence the simulation results.

9. Conclusion:
The Wien Bridge Oscillator is a versatile circuit widely used in various applications requiring
sinusoidal wave generation. Through simulation in MultiSim 14.3, the design and performance
of the oscillator can be evaluated and optimized. This report provides a comprehensive
overview of the design process and simulation results, serving as a guide for engineers and
enthusiasts working with oscillators.
