Activating Licenses from the Cloud to a


PC for use with GE-IP Software

January 2016
Introduction:

This document is an introduction to activating a license to a PC for use with GE-IP software from the
cloud.

Windows 7 was used for the procedure and screenshots with License Manager version 15.2.527.0

Ensure that you have installed and are running the latest Proficy Licensing. The link to this is

Start the License Manager by going


to Start-> All Programs-> Proficy
Common-> License Manager (right
click and run as administrator).
Acknowledge any User Access
Control prompts.

You will see a default pop-up instructing you to


make certain that if you are using a hardware
key, that this must be inserted. Since this example
is to demonstrate moving a license to a PC, left click
Continue.

You will be presented with the Proficy License Manager Welcome screen. Note that your Proficy
Computer ID will be all alpha-numeric. Choose Change Settings.

Ensure that you are using a Device Name & Device Location that is identifiable, left click on Verify
Connection and ensure that you have selected Use GEIP License Server on the Internet as an
Activation Source. Left click Save and then left click the Welcome link.

If there is no connection to the cloud server you will see:

Left click on Manage License.

Left click on Activate to obtain licenses from the cloud that will be used on this computer.

You may be prompted that there was no license found which would be may expected as the PC you
are using may have no license. Left click on OK.

Left click on Enter Activations.

You will be prompted to enter your Activation Code for the license you intend to place on this
hardware key. More than one code may be added per key by using the Add Code. Use the Activate
button to process the activation code.

Refer back to the email that you received from GE Intelligent platforms indicating that your order is
ready. The Activation Code is highlighted below and will be an alpha numeric string of 16 characters
(xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx).

Either copy & paste the activation code from the received email or enter the alpha numeric string
manually. Then left click Activate.

You will be informed that the activation was successful. Left click on OK.

Note that your License Type is now Device Locked and you now will see data under Your Licensed
Products. Left click on View Licenses to view you licensing details.

This concludes the procedure to activate a license from the cloud to a PC, the License Manager may
now be closed. Remember that for each key that will need this process completed, the new key must
be inserted and the License Manager restarted.
