1. PURPOSE
The purpose of this work procedure is to establish guidelines and requirements to control
the stringing & stacking of line pipes in ROU and & other materials to be used in the EPC
Tender for Pipeline and Associated Station Works for HRRL Connectivity (14” x 32 Km
approx.)
2. SCOPE
The scope covers to provide a detailed description for delivery transportation, handling,
stacking and stringing of line pipes Including all labor, materials, equipment, trailers,
lorries, supervision, inspection, repair. performances of all operations and incidentals
necessary for performance and completion of work for the EPC Tender for Pipeline and
Associated Station Works for HRRL Connectivity (14” x 32 Km approx.)

5. METHOD
5.1 Taking Over of Line Pipes
• BPCL shall receive and take over against requisition, line pipe from PJPL’s
designated yard as per contract.
• During taking over of pipes, BPCL shall perform visual inspection of pipes in
presence of Worley/PJPL and shall be recorded if found any damages.
• BPCL has also its option to carry out holiday detection at a prescribed set voltage
inpresence of VCS/BPCL.
• If any repair found during taking over of line pipe, the same shall be treated as
extra work. TPPL has the right to claim the same to VCS/BPCL.
• While loading pipes, on trucks each length will be placed to position without
dropping and each succeeding length will rest on supports on the truck and will be
separated from the adjacent pipe.

• After loading suitable belts and padding will be used to tie the load securely to
Each bolster.
• Lifting Hook will be equipped with a curved plate so as to fit the curvature of pipe.
• Lifting hooks to be covered with soft material like rubber, Teflon or equivalent.
• Stacks must be properly secured against sliding and will consist of pipes of the
same diameter and the same thickness. And stack layers will be as per
specification.
• Pre- damaged pipes will be stacked separately in Specified area and will be taken
for work only after repairing the same with permission of Vcs/PJPL Before
repair, VCS/PJPL approval shall be taken
• Non – metallic /non –abrasive belts of proper width (Min.60mm) may be used. If
belts are used, pipe to be stacked will be separated row by row to avoid damages
by rubbing coated surface. Slings / Belts will be cleaned to remove hard materials
such as dirt, sand, gravel etc.
• Pipes shall be unloaded from the stringing trucks and lowered to the ground by
means of Side Boom/ Crane or other suitable equipment Which is Approved by

PROCEDURE FOR STRINGING OF LINE PIPES
• Stringing of pipes will only be done in day light and after cleaning and grading
operations have been completed.
• The stringing of pipe in ROW will be done in such a manner as to cause the least
interference with the normal use of the land crossed and to avoid damage to or
interference with pipes.
BPCL shall also have to take care for safe working space between trench edge and the pipes.
• Stringing of coated pipes in ROU will be made only on soft soil / sand bags with
maintaining sufficient clearance from bottom of pipe and the ground level, so that
pipe must not contact with mud surface or any water.
• The pipe lengths will be properly spaced in order to make easier the handling
during the welding phase.
• Pipe no, Heat No & Length of pipes to be transferred top of pipes by paint,
wherever stenciling is not visible and same to be verified with MTC.
• Stringing of pipes will be as per approved alignment sheet for the proper
placement of pipe by size, thickness, grade and other specifications.
• Stringing in rocky area will be done only after completing the rock blasting and
debris clearance.
All meter of protections shall be properly kept tested checked in due order .Persons involved in work on
transport vehicle shall have valid driving license
7. DOCUMENTATION:
Note:- In case of any conflict between the above procedure and project specification the later shall govern
without any prejudice to the term & condition of the contract.
