It costs (12 + 0.008x) dollars per kilometre to operate a truck at x km/h. In addition, it costs
$14.40 per hour to pay the driver.

A box is to be made from a 10 cm by 16 cm sheet of metal by cutting equal squares out of the
corners and bending up the flaps to form the box. Let the lengths of the sides of the squares
be x cm and let the volume of the box formed be V cm3.
a) Show that V = 4( x3 − 13x2 + 40 x) .
b) State the set of x -values for which the expression for V in terms of x is valid.

A piece of wire of fixed length, L cm, is bent to form the boundary OPQO of a sector of a circle.
