The Discovery of DNA
The Discovery of DNA
● 1869
DNA was discovered in 1869 by a combination of scientists, who were
originally trying to study the composition of white blood cells.
Different groups of scientists were rushing to work out the structure of DNA.
They discovered that the chromosomes didn’t have the hereditary
information and they wanted to found out what was the thing in our bodies
that have that.
Watson and Crick built a structure of DNA from the x-ray data that was
carried out by Franklin.
This model was built correctly by the job of Watson and Crick, but also of
another scientists.
After the discovery
After this discovery, was possible to identify the individual bases of the genes of a person, helped to the medicine to prevent
diseases like cancer and helped in biology studies. In 1962 Crick, Wilkins and Watson were awarded the Nobel Prize for
Franklin’s work. To make money, Wilkins stole the x-ray image that Franklin had taken and shared it with Watson and Crick
to take the credit.
