Commando #5721 - Roll Depth Charges!

This 63-page document tells the story of a naval battle between a Royal Australian Navy corvette called HMAS Hibiscus and Japanese forces in the Pacific during World War 2. The Hibiscus loses track of an enemy submarine and fails to respond quickly enough when another periscope is spotted. This allows the submarine to torpedo a ship they were escorting. The new commander of the Hibiscus, Bill Turner, works to improve the crew's performance. They later engage and sink a Japanese commerce raider, but the captain is injured in an exchange of fire. The first officer, Welsh, takes command and secures the ship and survivors.

AFTER TOURING THE HIBISCUS, BOTH

THEY WERE TOO

WHILE THE HIBISCUS SAILED TOWARDS DARWIN,

THE NIGHT PASSED QUICKLY FOR HIBISCUS UNTIL

TOO BIG TO BE A SUB CONNING TOWER...

THE HIBISCUS CLOSED THE DISTANCE
BETWEEN THE TWO SHIPS UNTIL HER
MAIN GUN WAS AT OPTIMUM RANGE.
THE HIBISCUS OPENED FIRE

THE RAIDER MANAGED TO GET OFF A

WHEN COBB ARRIVED ON THE BRIDGE,

HE FOUND WELSH IN COMMAND AND
BILL UNCONSCIOUS ON THE DECK.

STREWTH!
^ GET ^

BRIDGE, BUFFER.
I’VE GOT THIS.
ANOTHER SHELL FROM THE HIBISCUS HIT THE RAIDER
JUST BELOW THE WATER LINE, HOLING HER.
