GUIDELINES FOR JULY 2022 Ph.D. ADMISSION (PART-TIME) OF CANDIDATES FROM


INDUSTRIES IN UNIVERSITY DEPARTMENTS OF ANNA UNIVERSITY

 Employees of Public Sector Undertakings / Government Organizations / Research &


Development Organizations / Private Industries / Software Companies are eligible to
apply for Part-time Ph.D. admission.
 Candidates from private industries and software companies are eligible to apply provided
the industry/company is a registered public/private limited company with minimum three
years of existence, with an average turnover of five crores per annum for last three years
and with minimum 25 regular employees.
 The candidate should meet the minimum eligibility conditions for Ph.D. at Anna University
(refer Anna University - Ph.D. Regulations 2020), with minimum three years working
experience in industry, and should have keen interest to pursue applied research related
to his/her field of working.
 Candidates within Chennai Metropolitan Area (or at a radial distance of not more than 50
kms from Main Campus/MIT Campus) are eligible to register for Ph.D. (part-time) with
the permission of their institution/organisation subject to fulfilling the course requirement.
If more than 50 kms, a minimum residency requirement of 6 months or till the candidate
completes course work is required.
 At the time of submission of Ph.D. application, candidates should submit a “No Objection
Certificate” on an official letterhead from the appropriate authority in the organization
clearly stating the following:
1. The candidate is permitted to pursue studies on a part-time basis
2. He/she will be fully relieved from duty and permitted to reside at the Institute for the period
of required residency that is essential for completing the course work (this is not a
requirement for candidates who are working in Chennai Metropolitan Area (CMA) or
organizations located within a distance of 50 km from the Institute)
3. His/her official duties permit him/her to attend required classes as per the Time Table of
Anna University Chennai
4. His/her official duties permit him/her to devote sufficient time for research
5. He/She would select an applied research related to his/her industry
6. If facilities for research in the candidate’s field of research are available at the candidate’s
place of work to use those facilities when the candidate is physically present at this place
of work and
7. In case the facilities are not available he/she will be permitted on Leave to use the
facilities at Anna University Campuses for the period of experimental work/ analysis.
