Indoor Connect 8855 allows multiple operators to serve UEs in the RF coverage
area on a shared, common in-building RDS network infrastructure including
IRUs, cabling and Dots. Indoor multi-operator networks are easily deployed and
managed with Indoor Connect 8855, enabling additional operators to plug in and
benefit from the coverage and capacity of the existing Radio Dot System.
Indoor Connect 8855 operates at the carrier level. Indoor Connect 8855 carriers
are currently limited to 100 MHz for NR TDD or 20 MHz for other technologies. A
maximum of 3 carriers per Donor RF interface (antenna branch) can be
configured on Indoor Connect 8855, to a maximum of 24 carrier branches per
Indoor Connect 8855.
All 24 carriers are able to route to any of the four CPRI interfaces. Indoor Connect
8855 can be connected to multiple IRUs, to a maximum of 4. The following rules
apply:
Through carrier branch processing, the carrier data is split up, distributed, and
broadcast up to four (4) CPRI interfaces, using a 10.1 Gbps line rate, to the IRUs.
The CPRI signals to the IRU can come from both Indoor Connect 8855 and ERS
baseband unit.
Indoor Connect 8855 has 4 pairs of donor RF interfaces, with each pair consisting
of two donor RF interfaces. Each donor RF interface consists of two RF
connectors, one Downlink/Duplex and one Uplink.
— When duplex operation is configured, downlink and uplink signals are carried
on the Downlink/Duplex connector of a donor RF interface.
One pair of donor RF interfaces can be configured to support 2T2R, 2T1R, 1T2R,
or 1T1R operation, while pairs of donor RF interfaces can be configured to
support 4T4R, 2T4R, or 4T2R operation.
— Multi-carrier, mixed mode (GSM, WCDMA, LTE, and NR) configurations with
up to four Donor Base Stations, each providing one or more 2T2R FDD
carriers with individual carrier bandwidths up to 20 MHz.
— NR TDD configurations with one Donor Base Station, providing one or more
2T2R or 4T4R TDD carriers with an individual carrier bandwidth of 100 MHz.
Note: The RDS Baseband unit and Indoor Connect 8855 must be
configured with the same TDD pattern. Only one type of TDD
pattern is supported for all Indoor Connect 8855 ports at any given
time.
— IRU 8844 / IRU 8848 / IRU 8884 / IRU 1648 / IRU 1649
— The Indoor Connect 8855 and one Baseband are connected to multiple IRUs
1648/1649, to a maximum of 4, supporting 10.1 G CPRI over a fiber (up to
10 km), with the dual-band Dot 4474/4484 B78U/B78U connected to the
IRU over the Radio Dot Interface (RDI). An NR TDD configuration providing
one or more 2T2R or 4T4R TDD carriers with an individual carrier bandwidth
of 100 MHz.
Note: Only one type of TDD pattern is supported for all RF ports at any
given time.

1.2 Variants
Indoor Connect 8855 is available in the following variants:
— Indoor Connect 8855 does not support deployments with IRU cascading.
— For IRU 164x, Indoor Connect 8855 can only connect to CPRI 1 or 2 in this
release.
— Only 5, 10, 15 and 20 MHz LTE FDD carriers are currently supported.
— Individual GSM carriers are not configurable on Indoor Connect 8855. Indoor
Connect 8855 uses a 5 MHz LTE carrier as a container to support GSM
signals. GSM carriers must be configured within the center 4.5 MHz of a 5
MHz spectrum block, allowing frequency hopping within the allocated 4.5
MHz block.
— Only In-Band NB-IoT is supported. Indoor Connect 8855 does not currently
support Standalone or Guard band NB-IoT.
— Multi-Operator RAN using two Baseband units is not supported in the Indoor
Multi-Operator Solution with Indoor Connect 8855.
— CPRI faults over the Indoor Connect 8855-IRU interface that are detected by
the IRU are not reported.
— There are specific compatibility requirements for TDD patterns and special
slot patterns for the Primary Operator, Secondary Operator, and Indoor
Connect 8855. Only one type of TDD pattern is supported for all Indoor
Connect 8855 ports at any given time. Refer to Appendix C: NR TDD
Configuration Guidelines in Indoor Connect 8855 Operation and
Maintenance.
— The primary NR TDD carrier must be configured and enabled before the
donor carrier is configured. If there is a TDD carrier from the Primary
Operator, the TDD switch on the Dot follows the switch point of the carrier
from the Primary Operator. If the carrier from the Primary Operator is
blocked or crashes, the impact to the TDD carriers on Indoor Connect 8855
requires an IRU and/or Indoor Connect 8855 reboot. This limitation will be
lifted in a future release when 20-90 MHZ NR TDD carrier support is
introduced.
— Cell size must be greater than 21.3 km with 500 m fiber, or greater than 35.6
km if 10 km fiber is deployed.
On the Ericsson RBS, configuring the correct cell range is dependent on the
NR TDD pattern that is used:
• NR TDD Pattern 01, 03, 04: These patterns have 2 consecutive UL slots,
therefore Preamble format 0 can be used to enable the correct cell range.
• NR TDD Pattern 00 and 02: A short preamble format should be used, B4,
and the feature “extended PRACH” must be enabled on the Donor’s
Baseband to achieve the correct cell range settings.
Note: Seals that have been implemented by Ericsson are not to be broken or
removed, as it otherwise voids warranty.

3 License Management
Licenses are required for all Donor Base Station Carrier Groups in Indoor Connect
8855 deployments. There should be sufficient Hardware Activation Codes
(HWACs) for all of the bandwidth, according to RAT type, that a single Indoor
Connect 8855 will request from each IRU to which it is connected.
For more information on the use of licenses, refer to License and Resource Use
Indicators, 17/1553-LZA 701 6017/1.
The LTE Channel Bandwidth 5 MHz license replaces the legacy capacity licenses
for channel BW. Increments of 5MHz Channel Bandwidth now use only one key
(CXC 401 2367) as shown in the following table. Only 5, 10, 15 and 20 MHz LTE
carriers are supported.
The total HWACs needed to support this configuration is 4 FAK 101 0157 + 1 FAJ
121 1344.
4 Synchronization
Every unit in an Ericsson Radio System (ERS) must operate at a frequency that
has a fixed relationship to the reference frequency for the ERS. Indoor Connect
8855 uses a reference source combination, where one of the sources provides the
ToD and the other source provides phase or frequency. Indoor Connect 8855
obtains the ToD from an NTP server and receives a GPS signal source for
synchronization between CPRI and IRU.
Indoor Connect 8855 is expected to receive its time from an NTP server which is
the same as the time source for the Baseband unit (the IRU receives its time
information from the Baseband unit). The NTP server can be configured and the
synchronization status can be verified through the Indoor Connect 8855 Web
GUI.
Alternatively, the Primary Operator can execute the CLI ntpcfg and ntpstatus
commands to configure and verify NTP status.
— Indoor Connect 8855 derives its frequency reference from the uplink CPRI
from one IRU.
— All IRUs, which are connected to a Digital Unit (DU), are candidates to be the
frequency reference.
— Indoor Connect 8855 selects one and tunes to the same frequency as the
reference CPRI. At this point, all clocks domains are frequency locked.
Note: All of the IRUs connected to an Indoor Connect 8855 must trace
their reference clocks to the same source.
The external interfaces for Indoor Connect 8855 are described in the following
table.
LED Behavior:
— ON: The input -48 V DC power cable is
connected to the lower ‘A’ position. Voltage
is within specification.
LED Behavior:
— ON: The input -48 V DC power cable is
connected to the upper ‘B’ position.
Voltage is within specification.
— OFF: Disconnected.
RJ-45 External Alarm No
[Female]
There are four alarm output signals that allow
Note: external alarm monitoring equipment to
monitor the state of Indoor Connect 8855.
(1) For details on the Maintenance Button, refer to Indicators, Buttons, and Switches, 19/1551-LZA 701 6001/1.
The alarm port is located on the right side of the front panel of the Indoor
Connect 8855.
— SAU
The Alarm port connector type is RJ-45 [Female]. Indoor Connect 8855 provides
four dry contacts for alarm output. The port is comprised of eight (8) pins working
in four (4) pairs for a total of four alarms. The Alarm output signals are of type
two wire, either closed connection or open connection. Each alarm output circuit
provides indication of two signal states. When the two output pins are connected
together, the state = CLOSED, otherwise state = OPEN. The alarm circuits are
normally CLOSED.
The pin configuration for the RJ-45 alarm port connector is shown in the
following table.
Indoor Connect 8855 provides four alarm output signals to monitor the state of
the Indoor Connect 8855.
Alarm Description
Note:
The alarm is not active in the absence of Power.
6 Transport Network
7 Network Impact
Indoor Connect 8855 does not have any impact on the Radio Access Network
(RAN). It does not have any impact on existing KPI values, load, capacity,
coverage, throughput, latency, handover time, counter values, or event intensity.
Indoor Connect 8855 makes use of any leftover RDS bandwidth and power to
carry Secondary Operator signals, and is, therefore, neutral with respect to the
case of a full capacity RDS deployment.
8 Technical Data
Technical data for Indoor Connect 8855 are listed in the following tables.
For more information about capacity data, refer to RBS Configurations and
Supported Capacity and Configurations.

ordered separately.
Note:
Note: Do not use any other cables than the ones listed in the tables above.
The Primary Operator must co-ordinate with the Secondary Operators who own
the Donor Base Stations. For example, the Primary Operator must ensure the
correct configuration of Primary and Donor carriers to avoid power and filter
branch resource exhaustion, manage all alarms for all operators, troubleshoot
any network issues on behalf of the Secondary Operators, and so on. A
Secondary Operator has limited access to most OAM functions (read-only
access), but can receive and query traps.
OAM of Indoor Connect 8855 is split between SNMP, Web GUI, CLI management,
and a customized, partial integration with ENM. ERS/RDS OAM is conducted
through Ericsson Network Manager (ENM). Information is passed between
Indoor Connect 8855 and IRU(s) through a client-server exchange. Indoor
Connect 8855 supports one connection for each CPRI onIndoor Connect 8855
(up to four CPRI connections to four IRUs).
Note: The User Management role assigned to each user determines the level of
OAM privileges for each function.

configuration.
ENM — Customized solution that offers partial integration with
ENM. The solution is added on the top of ENM, and
runs on a dedicated VM that is created during
installation.
For procedural information on Indoor Connect 8855 OAM, refer to the following
document:
ERS/RDS OAM
ERS/RDS OAM is conducted through Ericsson Network Manager (ENM), which is
an OSS platform and a suite of Network Management applications supporting
operation and maintenance of Ericsson Radio, Transport, and Core networks.
ENM is the single management interface to Ericsson network elements, and
supports all the OAM functions required to manage an Ericsson network
deployment.
