Lesson Plan in Math 7
Lesson Plan in Math 7
I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
A. Identify the rule in adding integers that is appropriate to solve the problem or
expressions;
B. Solve problems and expressions using Rules in Adding Integers;
C. Appreciate the lesson as it is may apply in our daily living.
III. PROCEDURE
A. PREPARATORY ACTIVITIES
1. Prayer
ANSWER KEY:
2. Greetings
3. Classroom Conditioning a. 3 C. 2
4. Checking of Attendance b. 20 d. 11
5. Review of the Previous Lesson
Give the absolute value of the following:
a. |-3| =
b. |20|=
c. |10|÷|-5|=
d. |4|+|-7|=
B. DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITIES
1. Motivation
The teacher will ask the students if they are familiar with the application in
cellphones named WATERTANK MATH. This application was created by a high
school Math teacher, Jason Kazar, who wanted to find a universal example for
teaching the addition and subtraction of integers in classroom.
2. Articulation of Lesson Objectives
The teacher will state the objectives of the day’s lesson.
4. Application
The teacher will give some common words use in some problem that may
represent using an integer. These are the following:
NEGATIVE POSITIVE
Under the sea/ below sea level Goes or move up
Loaned or borrowed Receive
Loss Profit
Spent Gained
Save
The teacher will give sample problems that applies addition of integers in
our daily living and solve using the rules in adding integers.
PROBLEM 1.
A submarine at 21 feet below the sea level suddenly moves up
about 6 feet. At what depth is the submarine located now?
GIVEN: 21 feet below the sea level = -21
Moves up about 6 feet = 6
SOLUTION: -21 + 6 = -15 (Rule 2)
The submarine is 15 feet below the sea level.
PROBLEM 2.
A football team gained 6 yards and then lost 10 yards. What is the
standing of the football team now?
GIVEN: gained 6 yards = 6
Lost 10 = 10
SOLUTION:
6 + (-10) = -4
The football team has lost 4 yards.
GROUP ACTIVITY
The class will be divided into 4 groups. Each group will have their
problem needs to be solve within 3 minutes. When the time is up, each group
will present their answer in the class. Each group must have a leader and a
secretary.
Their activity will be group using the criteria below:
ACCURACY OF ANSWER - 50%
PRESENTATION - 30%
TEAMWORK - 20%
100%
PROBLEM OF GROUP 1.
Maria saved 200 dollars and the she spent 150 dollars. How much
money does Maria have now?
GIVEN: saved 200 dollars = 200
spent 150 dollars = (-150)
SOLUTION:
200 + (-150) = 50
Maria has 50 dollars of money now.
PROBLEM OF GROUP 2
Steve had 140 pesos. He loaned 50 pesos to a friend, spent 31
pesos, and received his 250 pesos salary. How much money does he have
now?
GIVEN: Steve had 140 pesos = 140
Loaned 50 pesos = -50
Spent 31 pesos = -31
Received 250 pesos = 250
SOLUTION:
140 + (-50) + (-31) + ( 250) = 390 + (-81)
= 309
Steve has 309 pesos now.
PROBLEM OF GROUP 3
The business of Aling Marta in the school canteen has a record of
100 pesos profit for Monday, 80 pesos of loss on Tuesday, 10 pesos loss on
Wednesday, 85 pesos profit on Thursday and 23 pesos loss on Friday. How
many profits does Aling Martha has from Monday to Friday?
GIVEN :100 pesos profit on Monday = 100
80 pesos loss on Tuesday = -80
10 pesos loss on Wednesday= -10
85 pesos profit on Thursday = 85
23 pesos loss on Friday = -23
SOLUTION:
100 + (-80) +(-10) + 85 + (-23)= 185 + (-113)
= 72
Aling Marta has a profit of 72 pesos from Monday to Friday.
PROBLEM OF GROUP 4
John borrowed 10 pesos from Lester yesterday. He gave 6 pesos
to Lester today. How much more is his debt to Lester now?
GIVEN: borrowed 10 pesos = -10
Gave 6 pesos = 6
SOLUTION:
(-10) + 6 = -4
5. GENERALIZATION
Everyone has a purpose. We are all unique just like integers. We
may be positive or negative but we have our own purpose. Also, in every
problem, there exist a solution. What we need to do is to follow the rule
and use it appropriately to solve our problem.
IV. EVALUATION
Identify the rule that is appropriate the following problem and solve.
1. What is the sum of 21 and (-21)?
2. The sum of (-13) and (-10) is?
3. 26 + (-25) =
4. The scuba diver dives 10 feet under the sea and goes up about 2 feet.
How deep is the scuba diver now?
ANSWER KEY:
1. 0 (RULE NO.2)
2. -23 (RULE NO.1)
3. 1 (RULE NO.2)
4. GIVEN: dives 10 feet below the ground - -10
Goes up - 2
SOLUTION:
(-10) + 2 = -8
The scuba diver is 8 feet under the sea.
V. AGREEMENT
Give your own sample problem involving Addition of Integers. Write it on your lecture
notebook.
