The document provides instructions for assembling the core internal and external components of a personal computer. It describes: 1) Installing the power supply, motherboard, CPU, RAM, adapter cards, internal drives, and optical/floppy drives. 2) Connecting the internal cables like ATX power, SATA, and fans to provide power and transfer data between components. 3) Attaching external panels and connecting cables from the computer to a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and to the internet via Ethernet or USB ports.

POWER SUPPLY

- A power supply provides the needed voltage to power the various electronic circuits that make
up the PC.
- A power supply converts AC power from an outlet into DC power for the computer
- Attach the power supply to the case.

MOTHERBOARD

- The motherboard is the main printed circuit board that connects all the components of the
computer.
- On the motherboard, you will work with the following components:

CPU- carries out the instructions of a computer program (BRAIN OF THE COMPUTER)
-
 Thermal compound- a sticky paste placed directly onto the CPU (central processing unit) or
another IC (integrated circuit) for a more direct heat transfer between the chip and the heat

sink.

 CPU heat sink/fan assembly-Forces air over the heat sink

 RAM module (2)- computer's short-term memory, where the data that the processor is currently
using is stored.
 Motherboard- the main printed circuit board (PCB) in a computer. serves as a single platform to
connect all of the parts of a computer together

ADAPTER CARDS

- Adapter cards are installed on the motherboard to add functionality to your computer.

 A network interface card (NIC) is an adapter card used to connect your computer to a network.

 A wireless NIC is an adapter card used to connect your computer to another computer or a
wireless access point using radio signals.

 A video adapter is an adapter card that sends data to a computer display.

INTERNAL DRIVES

- The hard disk drive (HDD) is a magnetic drive that stores large amounts of data on fixed media.
- Reads and writes data to a fixed disk.

- Install the HDD into the case.

DRIVES IN EXTERNAL BAYS

- Optical Drive- The CD-RW/DVD drive is an optical storage device that reads and writes
information to CDs and reads DVDs.
- reads digital video disks.

 A floppy disk drive (FDD) is a magnetic drive that reads and writes information to floppy
diskettes.
 Install the Optical Drive and FDD.

INTERNAL CABLES

- Connect all internal cables to the appropriate computer components. Be sure to match Pin 1 to
Pin 1 when connecting cables to the devices.
- Connect the cables to the devices:

 20-pin ATX Power- links a power supply to a motherboard in the ATX format
 4-pin Auxiliary Power- provide +12 VDC to the processor voltage regulator.

 SATA Power- connect the hard disk to the motherboard.

 Molex Power- providing power to the motherboard, fans, floppy disk drive, CD/DVD drive, video
card, some older hard drive models, and more.

 Berg Power- connect electrical circuits.

 Case Fan Power- connecting and controlling the CPU cooling fan.

 SATA- the cables are used to connect a mass storage device (e.g. hard disk drives, optical drives,
solid-state memory drives) to a host bus adapter such as a motherboard.

 PATA- used to connect secondary storage devices like floppy drives, hard disks, optic disc drives
to older computers. It is one of the cable components used in a motherboard, and its primary
function is to transfer data.
 Floppy Drive- carries data between the motherboard and any floppy drive installed in the PC.

 3-Pin Connectors- motherboard fan connectors, or just fan connectors.

EXTERNAL CABLES

- To complete the computer assembly, attach the panels and secure them to the case using the
panel screws. You are now ready to connect the external cables to the ports on the back of the
computer.
- Connect the cables to the computer:

 Monitor- to display images, text, video, and graphics information generated by the computer via
a computer's video card.
- connect several devices inside or outside the computer system
 Keyboard- enter characters and functions into the computer system by pressing buttons, or keys
 Mouse-pointing device
 USB- used to connect peripheral devices to computers. And effectively, quickly and properly
gather or transfer data from one device to another.
 Ethernet- lets you physically connect your computer to the internet.
 Parallel- metal wires that enable multiple bits of data to be transferred simultaneously.
 Power- supplies power to the motherboard and other internal devices.
