Task Form
Exhaust Diffuser: The exhaust diffuser is essential for expanding and slowing down the high-velocity combustion gases. By converting the
high-velocity, high-pressure gas stream into a lower-velocity, higher-pressure stream, it helps reduce pressure losses and improve the
efficiency of the gas turbine. The diffuser ensures a smoother gas flow transition from the combustion chamber to the turbine section,
optimizing turbine performance.
Transition Piece: The transition piece connects the combustion chamber to the turbine section and guides the hot combustion gases. It
plays a critical role in maintaining a controlled and uniform flow of gases into the turbine nozzles. The design and proper functioning of
the transition piece are crucial for preventing flow disturbances, ensuring efficient energy extraction in the turbine, and protecting the
downstream components from excessive temperatures.
Nozzles and Vanes: The turbine nozzles and vanes in the turbine section extract energy from the hot combustion gases to drive the
turbine rotor. They are designed to efficiently convert the thermal energy of the gases into mechanical energy, enabling power
generation. The proper design, positioning, and condition of the nozzles and vanes are crucial for maximizing turbine efficiency,
maintaining stable operation, and achieving the desired power output.
Exhaust Stack or Duct: The exhaust stack or duct is responsible for directing the combustion gases away from the turbine and safely
releasing them into the atmosphere. It plays a vital role in maintaining the required back-pressure for optimal turbine operation. The
design of the stack or duct minimizes pressure losses, ensures proper gas dispersion, and prevents excessive back-pressure that could
negatively impact turbine performance.
Exhaust Silencer: The exhaust silencer or attenuator is important for reducing noise emissions from the exhaust gases. It attenuates the
sound generated during the gas discharge, ensuring compliance with noise regulations and creating a quieter operation environment. The
exhaust silencer helps mitigate the impact of noise on nearby communities and provides a safer and more comfortable workplace.
Emission Control Systems: Emission control systems, such as selective catalytic reduction (SCR), play a crucial role in reducing the
environmental impact of exhaust gases. These systems help mitigate pollutants, such as nitrogen oxides (NOx) and carbon monoxide (CO),
before they are released into the atmosphere. By implementing effective emission control measures, gas turbine operators can comply
with environmental regulations, minimize air pollution, and contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment.
