1. The expected value of the voltage to be measured is 150 V. However, the measurement
gives a value of 149 V. Calculate: (i) Absolute error (ii) Percentage error (iii) Relative
accuracy (iv) Percentage accuracy and (v) Error expressed as percentage of full scale
reading, if the scale range is 0-200 V.
2. The following resistance values of a platinum resistance thermometer were measured at a
range of temperatures. Determine the measurement sensitivity of the instrument in
ohms/°C. use:
207 200
214 230
221 260
228 290
3. A moving coil voltmeter has a uniform scale with 100 divisions, the full-scale reading is
200 V and 1/10 of a scale division can be estimated with a fair degree of certainty.
Determine the resolution of the instrument in volt.
4. A basic D'Arsonval movement with an internal resistance of 50Ω and a full scale
deflection current of 2 mA is to be used as a multirange voltmeter. Design the series
string of multipliers to obtain the voltage ranges of 0 - 10 V, 0 - 50 V, 0 - 100 V, 0- 500
V.
5. Two different voltmeters are used to measure the voltage across Rb shown in the Fig
below.
The two meters used are as follows:
i) Meter with sensitivity 1kΩ /V and range 5 V.
ii) Meter with sensitivity 20 kΩ/V and range 5 V.
6. A voltmeter reads 111.5 V. The error taken from an error curve is 5.3 %. Find the true
value of the voltage.
7. A 0-100 V voltmeter has 200 scale divisions which can be read to 0.5 division.
Determine the resolution of the meter in volt.
a. D’Arsonval
b. Electrodynamometer
9. A step input of 5A is applied to an ammeter. The pointer swings to 5.18 A and finally
comes to rest at 5.02 A.
10. A meter movement has an internal resistance of 100ohm and requires 1Ma Current
for full scale deflection. The shunting resistor, placed across the movement has a value of
100ohm .diode D1 and D2 each has an average of 400 ohm and is assumed to have
infinite resistance in the reverse direction .calculate;
11. For the network shown in the Fig. below, find the voltage reading on voltmeter, if
voltmeter sensitivity is 1KΩ/volt. If the voltmeter is replaced by another voltmeter
having sensitivity 25 kΩ/volt, find the new reading. Comment on the answer.
12. The expected value of the voltage across a resistor is 80 V. However, the
measurement gives a value of 79 V. Calculate
